Reprise are re-issuing many of Frank Sinatra's albums digitally remastered and with [on some] additional tracks. Among these comes this rare album from 1964 featuring Mr Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians in solos, duos and trios. The material may well be unfamiliar to us in UK apart from one or two numbers as the collection consists of flag waving American anthems and songs. My 4 star rating rests on three particular selections and the rarity of the album. Sinatra reprises his great hymn to tolerance 'The House I Live In' in appropriate style in tandem with the Pennsylvanians. This appeared also on the 2LP set 'A Man and His Music' from 1965. Two other tracks are worth mentioning. Sinatra's solo rendition of 'Early American' is well presented and beautifully sung. The album highlight must surely be 'Let Us Break Bread Together' where we hear a consummate duet featuring the two greatest popular singers of the 20th century showing just how it should be done. (No contributions down the telephone here, as in the 'Duets' albums of the 1990's). Sinatra hits tones in his tenor register that we have rarely heard, and Crosby, in his inimitable style, at the songs conclusion, slurs down to his bass register and both hold their final harmonies for what seems like an age. This album is not just for completists or 'Sinatraphiles', it is a rare demonstration of vocal class from Bing and Frank that you will enjoy.
