I borrowed this pump from my community midwives after having a blocked duct following the birth of my daughter. I am a student midwife so quite clued up on breastfeeding, and also quite difficult to impress.

This pump is operated by turning a dial to switch it on- this starts gentle fluttery suction to stimulate let-down, you then turn the suction up with that same dial, and once a flow is established, using the second dial you then turn the speed down so the pump is mimicking the baby's long, slow sucks during a feed.

    Pros:
Easy to assemble and dismantle, very simple to sterilise
Quickly expresses good volumes of milk
    Very quiet.
You can potentially pump both sides at once although personally I would have found this difficult.
Parts are sturdy and not easy broken.
Easy to clean the actual pumping unit.
Bottles stand in pump device when not in use, making it quite neat if it's sitting on your table or whatever.

    Cons:
Hard plastic funnel is not as comfy on breast as it may be if it had one of the cushioned inserts like other electric pumps available on the high street.
I didn't take it anywhere, but it doesn't seem as easy to transport as, for example, the Philips Avent pump which comes with caps to keep the pumping equipment sterilised.
Hard to get hold of other Ameda products in the UK, although I believe it is compatible with some Medela products. I, however just poured my milk into other products to use it, and in fact most of the time I froze the milk I expressed.

My daughter had twins so wanted a good breast pump. She used this make in hospital so decided to buy the Ameda. Wasn't disappointed, she says it is very good.

Best baby purchase ever!!!!!! Highly recommend as it works a charm and allows you to control the suction and speed. Suction is very good therefore it doesn't take as long to express a decent amount of milk within a short period of time. It's easy to clean and assemble between expressing sessions and effective. I chose this over the Medela because of the price, recommendations, comfort of suction on nipples and effective suction within short periods of time.

Had a Medela double pump before this one and this extracts just as well and is less than half the price! Happy with my purchase.

Ameda Lactaline personal dual electric breast pump breast pump is great and it has exceeded my expectations. I was hesitating (long and hard) between Medela (any of theirs really as I have used Medela Symphony and Lactina in hospital and they were excellent) and Ameda Lactaline I am very happy I have purchased this pump.

I have been using this pump regularly once, rarely twice, a day for the last 6 weeks since I have returned to work on a full time basis.

    Pros:

Mobile – small and light – fits into a small backpack that I carry to work every day

Silent – I lock myself in a small room to express milk during my lunch breaks even though there are people behind the wall. If I am too aware of the noise, while running I keep the pump in my backpack which makes the sound hard to notice

Battery and electricity operated / you can also get a car charger

Adjustable suction and speed – to control milk flow - I usually start at fast speed and med suction until the milk starts flowing and then change to slow and stronger settings

Good suction used as a single and double breast pump – I have never needed to set the suction to the max even when used on two breasts

Milk supply has not decreased over the time since I have been using the pump – please note that I am not using the pump exclusively, I also breastfeed the baby in the evenings , nights and mornings

I have Medela bottles that I used while in the hospital and use them exchangeable with the Ameda ones – they fit perfectly

There is no problem with milk backblock as in Medela products, no mold growth on any parts as I have come across quite a few comments on that issue with Medela pump.

I use this pump with the areola stimulator for comfort. It is completely painless, unlike the manual pumps I used in the past which rely on heavy suction rather than gentle stimulation to work. It is a closed system so there are no narrow pipes or fiddly bits to clean and there is no chance of mildew building up inside the pump. On my first attempt with this machine I sat with it for 5 minutes and produced nothing, then I started cooing over my baby, the milk started flowing and 10 minutes later I had 140ml! (baby is two months do this quantity is plenty).

    Hi,
This is a great pump and I would advise to buy this as a good balance between quality and value. There are a couple of parts to this pump that you need to look after very carefully. The silicone valves in each bottle are quite thin and easily torn when removing to clean. This is common in most pumps and they are interchangeable between them. After tearing one in the first few days, we now leave these on the pump after expressing, but rinse with hot water straight away and then sterilise. Not had a problem since.
