This CD (and its companion vol 2, released together as "Light in Extension")is neither ambient nor dub in my books, but it has strong elements of it. It really does hold up in its own right. Take the opener "Divination I" for example; it begins with faint and forlorn, almost hesitant, tunes and then embarks on a slow heavy groove to which on occasion someone narrates "time is that which ends". Not exactly stuff that would fly at a happy party, but it probably was not intended for this kind of event anyway. It's sombre throughout, to say the least, but it emanates energy.
Something that is more often than not lacking in other music that is (nearly) falling into the same genre. Enjoy the trip.
