5.0 out of 5 stars Good value and performance 2 Aug 2013
By Paul Madge #1 HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Like at least one other reviewer I have mainly been using Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables to replace my disposable AAA batteries very successfully. However, I thought I'd try these Amazon Basic versions because I've had some very positive experiences with various items in the Amazon Basics range to date such as cables, shredders and DVD drives.

These AAA cells were, on delivery, close to fully charged (my battery condition meter showed 90% of full charge). Their output of 800 mAh puts them towards the lower reaches of the capacity stakes but, to be fair, these are "Basics" - a value rather than premium line. Also, in terms of pricing they are good value, to get 12 in the pack at the current price is very competitive. If anything goes wrong there's a good chance Amazon will honour the warranty (and be around to do so).

Physically these Chinese sourced cells look well made and are marked in such a way that the positive terminal is fairly obvious - the green ring on the casing also helps if your sight isn't too good. I do agree with another reviewer it would have been good if Amazon marketed a matching charger. The charger I use is the Technoline BL-700 intelligent charger which, although not cheap, takes a lot of the guesswork out things. I've seen a number of well reviewed cheaper intelligent chargers on Amazon including one by Lloydtron. I find these batteries recharge in about 4/5 hours using my charger.

In terms of performance I've found these Amazon Basic AAA cells to be fine - they last an acceptable time in the appliances I've tried them in and have a good immunity to temperature changes. Some rechargeables I've used in things like alarms and trail cameras have difficulty in functioning in the cold - that's not so with these.

Overall, a generously sized pack of rechargeable batteries from a vendor with sufficient clout to offer genuine assurances around quality, performance and safety. Recommended.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
A few years ago, Sanyo introduced the Eneloop battery, a NiMH rechargeable which had a much lower self-discharge rate (how fast a charged battery loses charge in storage) than previous rechargeables. Typically, a rechargeable battery loses around 10% of its charge in a week, so after 10 weeks in storage, they are flat; the Eneloop cells lose less than 1% a week, so could be stored for up to 2 years.

I've been using Eneloops in every device I have that takes AA and AAA batteries for several years now, and they are superb. Their only drawback is that they are quite expensive - so Amazon have now launched their own range of long-life rechargeables. These provide a useful cost saving - they are around 75% of the price of Eneloops. That said, the real Eneloops are all made in Japan; the Amazon batteries are Chinese-made, so clearly they aren't just rebranded Eneloops. They are supposed to be good for 1000 recharges, but it is difficult to assess how well they will manage this at this stage!

It's a shame that Amazon don't offer a matching charger, or even provide any advice as to what sort of charger should be used - the leaflet in the box only says "charge with approved charger", but gives no idea as to whose approval is required. This is a bit of a worry when incorrectly charging a battery will, at best, shorten its useful life, and at worst cause a fire or explosion - Amazon really need to provide a lot more information here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleased with the price 10 Sep 2012

Although these are rechargeable, as a professional photographer I somehow lose batteries almost as soon as I buy them. So I'm really pleased to have purchased these at what seems a very reasonable price. They work well too - and seem to last just as long as the other makes that I've purchased.

Very happy to buy these on line and at Christmas they are so badly needed and are easy to forget so it is a great way to purchase and will do again in the future.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite sure 6 Jan 2014

Ok they are cheap but after a full charge the unit I have placed a few of the batteries in shows between 45 to 48 % charge. Have yet to go through the whole batch but if I get the same result then I will opt for branded batteries albeit more expensive. As an update have recharged the batteries (different ones) so they show full on the charge, the reading from these two that I am using is 62 - 67 % and strangely the charge level dropped to 41 % after 24 hours even though the unit (remote control) had been used for no more than 1hr.

5.0 out of 5 stars battery rammed 27 May 2013

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The Amazon Basics range always comes up trumps for simple good quality.

These AAA's are just as good as any big brand name both in build and power and as there's not likely to come a day anytime soon when a household won't need a spare battery, a worthy kitchen drawer investment. Only problem is the instant access as whilst these come ready charged - not always the case with new batteries - the recharge can take several hours from scratch.

Any mains charger should be fine and these were powered in a Duracell model.

It seems yet again the Basics range is anything but.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value and performance... 23 May 2013
By S. Riches TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
These are packed in two sets of 6 in a blister-pack which you have to either twist or cut open. They come with a whacking full-charge, and so far that first charge is lasting well in the lighting I am using. Pricewise these stand up well in the market, and as long as you find an easy-to-use charger (and most are) these batteries will be perfect for all those pieces of equipment such as torches, TV remotes, computer mouse wireless units, and for any time when the original recharge batteries eventually die in your walkabout telephone handset, and so on. High-drain useage such as kiddies' remote control toy cars or the charge-up handsets for little flying helicopters etc. will drain these a touch sooner than the non-rechargeable batteries but with 12 of these in a pack it's a simple matter to swap in some fresh ones and recharge the dead ones.
I agree with the review that it would be helpful to customers if a recommended charger(s) was to be also available within ther marketing page of these batteries.
As these do not come in any case other than a pull-apart cardboard cover I'd recommend finding a little storage case to keep them in order, thus avoiding the possibility of the batteries shorting out against each other when rattling around in an untidy bundle. I doubt they have enough wumph to cause a fire, but why take a risk? Good value, decent performance. Steve Riches, Northampton, UK.
