Where is the Version Number? HDMI only outlines possible functions, not actual product functions. In other words, it is not obligatory for manufacturers to integrate all possible functions into their devices. HDMI offers a range of functions and it is up to the manufacturer to choose which ones are the most suitable to integrate. If you, for example, want Deep-Colour Video, ensure that Deep-Colour features in the function list. The fact that the device meets the HDMI 1.3 criteria (i.e. the Deep-Colour launch version number) does not mean the cable is compatible. Why? The fact that it’s 1.3 does not mean that the device is fitted with Deep-Colour compatibility. HDMI strongly recommends, therefore, that you check that the desired functions are supported at the time of purchase, rather than simply checking the version number of the HDMI components.
