This is an elegant, hard shell leather case, fits my iPhone 4 like a glove. The inside is lined with felt/velvet fabric to protect my device.
However, it affords no protection to the front display. (You need a screen protector - I use Proporta Advanced Screen Protector for iPhone 4. Also, as it covers up the rear glass pane, it is very slightly less comfortable to hold. The case is rigid, so it is definitely less likely to be damaged if you drop it on to a concrete floor, for example. It also cover up the Apple logo, so it's useful for keeping it out-of-view of potential muggers, if you're worried about that sort of thing.
The Amazon'Basic' label is a little misleading; this feels like a high quality, premium product. It looks like a smart, expensive case. (The AmazonBasic Logo is on the back and is barely visible)
Having used the iPhone 4 bumper case manufactured by Apple for some time, I have to say that I prefer that for day-to-day use. I will use this case when travelling.

This iphone case is a hard case, even though it's made of leather: a stiff back and edges of the case mean that the top is open (and indeed how the phone gets into the case at all!). There is no hole on the back other than where the camera lens sits, so if flashing the silver apple logo is important to you, this case isn't for you.
I was worried that the opening at the top of the case would mean the phone slipping out, but it is reasonably secure (it does tend to slide out when putting in the PC connector). I guess this is because of the velvet lining inside the case. Access to the volume buttons is easy given that the top of the case is open.
When the case is on, from the front it looks like the effect of the Apple silicone bumpers, but the leather gives it a much classier look and feel. There is a bit of 'Amazon Basics' branding on the back of the case in the lower right hand corner, but it's unobtrusive. The case does add a couple of millimetres to either side of the phone, but it's not over-bulky.
So in summary - if you want a bumper-style case for the phone, this is a reasonable option that looks good in place.

If the AmazonBasics leather iPhone 4 case came in a fancy box with a high-end brand-name and a price tag to match most of us probably wouldn't question it, at least not on first sight. It's a well-made and well-finished case, with a firm plastic core wrapped in fine-grain leather on the outside and a velvet-like lining. The case protects the back and most of the edges well enough to withstand moderate bumps and scuffs but it does leave the top a bit exposed. This fit is tight enough to be secure but it's still easy enough to slide your iPhone out if you need to. It feels good in your hand but isn't quite as slip-proof as some cases - Apple's own 'bumpers' for example offer better grip.
The raised front edges, which surround the screen, take a bit of getting used to because at first you naturally avoid pushing your finger up against them and this can lead to typing errors as you mis-hit the virtual keyboard keys. A more annoying problem is with the proximity sensor built into the iPhone - the raised edges can keep the phone slightly away from your head and therefore the sensor sometimes fails to realise you're holding the phone to your ear and so doesn't disable the touchscreen as it should. This can be a problem with the iPhone 4 anyway, but this case seems to make it slightly worse for me.
The AmazonBasics logo embossed into the bottom-rear is much subtler than some case logos but why have it at all - I already know where I got my case from and who else cares? Although the name AmazonBasics might conjure up images of tacky yellow packaging on the bottom shelf in your local supermarket it's misleading - every AmazonBasics product I've tried has been good quality but designed and presented in a no-frills way. This case is no exception, it isn't the most exciting design but it has an understated, sophisticated style and the quality to back it up.
