The most important thing for me about a point-and-shoot camera is having it ready to hand - no photographs otherwise. I need a case that protects it when I drop it (which I do, sometimes), and that lets me get the camera out quickly and put it away quickly. I also want something that doesn't add bulk, because if I'm carrying the camera or have it in my pocket, I'm more likely to get the photo when an opportunity turns up. This does the job.

It's nice quality leather - similar to Krussel. Inside suede should protect the screen. The magnetic catch means easy to open: long flap on front means camera isn't likely to fall out. The small inside pouch for spare memory card looks as if it would push into the camera if used - not an issue for me, I rarely fill the 8Gb card I use. Most of the camera is covered: this won't guarantee safety if dropped, but will give it a fighting chance.

Note: the description at the moment mentions "This camera case's convenient wrist strap" - it doesn't have one (at least, the one I got doesn't), it has a hole to pass the camera's wrist strap through. This works fine, so long as you have the strap on your camera.

I have a Canon IXUS 95is: this case fits well. It's not quite as snug as custom made, but very close - quite happy with fit.

I wouldn't want to trust the belt attachment: it's a flap that attaches with velco, and looks as if it would simply pull out if you pushed against something. I don't want to wear this on my belt, so not a problem for me, but if you do, you might want something more robust. For me, good bit of kit, job done.

Arriving in an oversized brown corrogated box it's very easy to open, the Frustration-Free Packaging claim is totally correct.

The camera case itself looks and feels good enough for the job. The interior is lined with a coarse grey suede, and there is also a small pocket just big enough for a memory card inside. Whilst the wrap-over style exterior is reasonably durable, the lack of reinforcement around the soft leather gusset suggests that this case will be no good for those of a clumsy disposition. A drop would likely result in serious damage to your camera. The magnetic catch is functional, but it can pop open without you realising, so a velcro fastener might have been a better choice. The velcro belt clip can be adjusted to fit most belt straps upto about an inch across, and anchors quite securely.

Generally tidy smart case in leather, though bottom has split open after two weeks, no proper waterproofing and magnetic clip does keep coming undone causing the camera to drop onto the floor some times - will fasten with velcro though i wish these things were tested first, an expensive camera could be damaged.

No camera case is going to win an award for style, although there are plenty out there uglier than this one. Instead you're buying it to protect your camera from dust, bumps and scratches. For what it is, this one seems pretty sturdy, which will at least protect your camera from occasional knocks and having chunks gouged out of it by your house keys. Check the size of your camera before you buy though - being leather there's not much stretch, so if your camera's too big it ain't going to fit no matter how hard you try to force it!

I got this case because I used to have the Canon version of it and lost it. This looked like the perfect replacement.

Overall, when I compare this to my previous (Canon branded) case, it is comparable. I wouldn't have known the difference in the case itself.

The only difference is that my Canon case came with a black leather strap for the camera (that also went through the little hole at the top). This case doesn't, so I had to use the standard grey strap on my Canon. I just checked the product page for the Canon case, and it's not clear if that still comes with the black strap or not.

The price point is exactly the same has the Canon branded case. I wished it was slightly cheaper though (I was expecting it to be since it wasn't Canon branded).

Upon a very close look, the other difference is that the Amazon Basics case has softer, more worn black leather and the Canon one had a sleeker/smoother black leather.

Also, just to experiment, I tried the case out to see if any other cameras would fit. Here's what I found:
1. Sony Cybershot DSC-700: the camera is slightly to wide. I managed to squeeze it in, but couldn't get the case to close (the setting wheel at the top does not fit in). Overall, this would not be a good case for that camera, or anything slighly fatter than the Canon.

2. Sony Cybershot DSC-W80: fits perfectly, so a good choice!

The quality of this leather case is as good as any other branded case. However, please check the dimensions of your camera to make sure that it fits.
In my case, I did not check the dimensions, so my camera did not fit the case!

The AmazonBasics Camera Case is a well-designed product. This can be clearly seen by the quality leather which is soft to the touch and appears to be very durable. An issue I have found with similar products is the flap fastening which is usually quite weak - however with this case it is not the case! The magnetic clip which holds the camera inside the case is strong enough to prevent the camera from falling out, and a long flap is a welcome addition. Inside the camera case the screen and lens are also protected through the use of suede - which should not scratch any of the camera surfaces. However, you do need to make sure that no dirt accumulates inside the case as this could damage your camera (this is an issue with all cases).

The design of the case also allows for quick removal of the camera. In this respect it is much better than my old case which could be at times very fiddly (and especially so when you needed it the most).

Overall, the AmazonBasics Camera Case is a well thought-out product which will protect your camera from those little drops we all subject our electronic equipment to.

Although, remember to check the dimensions of your camera before you buy!
