If you already know how to use Hadoop and want to build large scale clusters on Elastic Map Reduce then this is the place to start.

If you wanted something beyond the Apache documents, keep this one for later

Precise step by step guide. It's would be better to read with more conceptual guidebook of Hadoop (e. g. Hadoop the Definitive Guide)

Very helpful to get up to speed on EMR. Great that I could access it on the web and on my kindle or via kindle app.
3.0 out of 5 stars Introductory and free, thats all 6 Sept. 2012

Good introduction to the MapReduce framework and how one can implement that on EC2. I downloaded a kindle version. It is an introductory description and for that it does seem to presume that the reader has some background knowledge. There are a whole bunch of other such guides for everything that is a part of AWS. There are a number of other better alternatives to this document for MapReduce and to EC2. Cloudera has free resources some which cover the MapReduce algorithm. There is a book titled "Programming Amazon EC2" and "Programming Amazon Web Services" which are better than this. The AWS and MapReduce on EC2 are phenomenal as opportunities for newbies to learn the ropes for an affordable price, it is only this "guide" that I dont think is good enough.
