Product Description

Product Description

A complete introduction to the mathematical theory of Origami based on the teachings of Freidrich Froebel (1782-1852) and a step-by-step guide to 33 colourful and fun paper folding projects which are in themselves 3-dimensional proofs of geometric principals: - Spiral - Star - Octagon - Pentagon - Hexagon - Heptagon - Pyramid - - 16-, 17-, 18- and 24- sided polygons - Super Tangram - Polyhedron - - Tetrahedron - Octahedron - Icosahedron - Dodecahedron - Creating these projects is a little like solving a puzzle. Learn a lot of interesting facts about angles when you construct a pinwheel, a crow's head and a plot of grass, for example, and discover how you can use an origami square to fashion as large a hexagon as possible. * Artistic! Bring geometry and art together when you fold these beautiful origami shapes. * Educational! While you're making these remarkable designs, you also learn about the mathematics behind the folds & have fun with geometry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not really that amazing, 4 Aug 2001
By "lhs1701" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Amazing Origami (Hardcover)
I bought this book on the strength that it is by Kunihiko Kasahara. I am an admirer of his works and have attempted to collect all books by him.

There is a lot of mathematics involve so for those who like to combine mathematics and origami, this is a good book to add to your collection. If you are just interested in origami and not mathematics, perhaps, you might consider browsing it at your local book stores before deciding.

The models within are not really that amazing, in fact rather simple. These simple models are being used to illustrate the mathematics involved in the folding of the models.

The 5 platonic solids (tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, icosahedron) are introduced here, the mathematics involved and how to fold it. They are very attractive to fold if the right colours are chosen. Boxes, stars, tangrams and other geometric solids are included. Most of these can be used for decorations other than studying the mathematics involve.

Whether you think this book is worth getting will depend a lot on your interest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but not easy, 10 April 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Amazing Origami (Hardcover)
I find this an interesting book with some incredible origami pieces, but be careful when buying it, because it is not as easy at it seems. If you are a novice in origami, you'll need patience and orientation from someone who knows more than you. Anyway, there is indeed beautiful origami.

3.0 out of 5 stars A book for math teachers!!!, 17 May 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Amazing Origami (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent source for math teacher, but not as good for someone that just like origami for the joy of it, because it goes in to much math and no into the beautiful models that Kunihiko Kasahara usually presents.
