I have loved and been entertained by Optical Illusions for several decades.I have quite a number of them in my collection and have written Reviews on at lesst 9 and I listed them in the Review I posted for "Amazing Visual Illusions" by the same authors,on December 10,2011.
If this is the first book of Optical Illusions ,it is an excellent choice. However;if you already have several different ones, and particularly by these authors ;be careful as I have detailed in my other Reviews.
I took a chance when I bought this one and was very pleased with it.However,I was prepared to be disappointed.Although the cover of mine is the same as shown here, the number of pages and illusions is the same;the one here is by the same publisher,SevenOaks as is mine, but mine has a publication date of 2006 where the one listed here is 2007.
There have been many books of Optical Illusions by many different authors and publishers. There is a lot of duplication of these illusions as well as different versions of the same principle.
This particular book ,is by two of the best and most prolific in the field, and they give a very good introduction of the principles involved in these illusions. Most of the illusions are original, while at the same time different versions of the same principle. The illusions are presented in 6 Galleries with notes accompaning each Galley. In another section ,"Classic Optical Illusions" they show illustrate 18 types of Illusions and the names that have been given to them;in most cases "the Inventors".A Glossary of 11 terms applied to Optical Illusions;and also a very brief list of other books and Websites for further exploration;is also included.
There is always something new and different coming from the artists that excel in this field,so if you have seen a book of Optical Illusions published a decade or more ago, you'll be surprised at what some of the newer books have to offer..
