5.0 out of 5 stars The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard 10 Jun 2010
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. It was a unique look at the life of a UK Prime Minister, showing us how easily responsibility and power can override our moral code and force us into doing things we had convinced ourselves we would never do under any circumstances. 'The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard' entertained me (and hopefully others) by showing one possible scenario in which everybody in Parliament gets a damn good kick up the arse, something that has only been replicated in real life (to a somewhat lesser scale) by the recent hung parliament.

Another thing I liked about this series is that not only did it seem as real as the current politics at the time, but a damn slight more interesting as well. Of course, this could be seen as inevitable as like 'Yes, Minister/Prime Minister', 'The House Of Cards', and 'The Thick Of It' before it, this programme gave us a glimpse of the world behind the slogans, spin, and smiles of UK politics. And while I also love the aforementioned series, it could be taken as a pro that 'The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard' simplifies and speeds up the goings-on of running the United Kingdom, making it more accessible than its predecessors in this genre.

Situations (political cock-ups) also seem a lot more urgent in the world of Mrs. Pritchard, whereas Jim Hacker always reacted as a man who is merely playing the Prime Minister (he always seemed far too relaxed for far too long), and Francis Urquhart would always react (at least in public) as a straight-laced, traditional Conservative, a species of political beast that nowadays sounds as remote and unknowable as the dinosaurs. But Jane Horrocks seemed to hit the nail on the head with her portrayal of Mrs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should watch this! 3 Aug 2009
I watched this when it was broadcast on BBC in the UK and absolutely loved it; it's funny, witty, insightful and often extremely near the edge. If only politics were like this.
Everyone should see this; everyone should learn something about the reality of politics behind the scenes. But what makes this special is the conflict with that reality and the principles and vision that the amazing Mrs. Pritchard got into office.
This is politcs for real people - we would all want the purple alliance to win the next election if only it existed. Especially in the inevitable run-up to the next general election, I wish the BBC would repeat this. But, failing this, I can now watch it when I want.

Sometimes a tv series surprises you and the sharpness of the observations on politics made this show special. I was disappointed there was only one series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very silly but good fun 5 Nov 2013

Very silly and not remotely believable but still a fun look at how a 'Muggle' might find the experience of being suddenly thrust into the political spotlight.
