This isn't just the first "real" single from George Michael's first "real" album since 1996's "Older", it's also the first single since George Michael's life took a major shift for the better (controversies have passed and a long-term relationship has arrived), and every bit of that positivity is on show here.
Starting out with an almost whimsical, pitched-up George Michael humming along in bossa nova style, the record quickly kicks in as a breezy, mid-tempo affair. The softly strumming guitars and sentimental lyrics may hint at his maturity, but a Phil Collins record this is not. For one thing, his vocals are as energetic and convincing as ever, and the creative touches that George has always been so good at- the little electronic flourishes and surprise lyrics at the end- seal the deal nicely.
George is happy again, and if this unseasonably warm sample is any indication, his new LP will be all the better for it.

This is a fantastic new track from the legend George Michael. This is his first original track in a year, and after his two last tracks, "Freeek!" and "Shoot the Dog" he has returned to his good old way of writing, and his voice is natural and sang the way it needs to be heard. "Amazing" is to say the least an amazing track (oh the cheese!) and it is really beautful. The lyrics are supurb, as can be expected from George Michael and this is one of the most long awaited tracks from the king of music.
9/10
(also look out for his new album "Patience")

George Michael has always had a knack for making really catchy tunes that people can whistle along to on the radio and this one is no exception. On first hearing it seems soulless and rather empty but it only takes a couple of more listens and your hooked, the DA DA DA is as infecious as Kylie's LA LA LA and from then on it just gets better each time you hear it. This track creeps up on you and stays there for the rest of the day when ever you hear it.

George is back and worth waiting for. Amazing will show all those
who tried to write him off that he is as good as ever. Clearly,
he has not forgotten how to use his "instrument." Amazing is a
wonderfully catchy song that makes very clear that he is in love
and happy. Good for him. I can't wait for patience!

Long time George fans have been asking this question for decades!? - Why does it take so long for GM to release new stuff? Because he doesn't release junk. "Amazing" is just that- it's a GREAT song that only gets better the more you hear it. Freeek was one of George's BEST and Shoot the Dog was I think one of his best- Amazing keeps up this record and shows that George's tastes and opinions are very well in tact. Amazing uses subtle riffs, great vocals and a flattering lyric. I can't wait to hear how it plays out in the rest of the album.

Seems that age is taking its toll on GM. Ok, compared to the usual nonsense that is sold these days, Amazing is infinately superior in every way, the lyrics are as usual unconventionally structured and layered, and of course, are of substance emotionally. However, if you pay attention, you will note exact key changes and instrumentation as in parts of Outside, and Fastlove. Has GM run out of inspiration ? I read he himself admitted he found it harder to write songs these days and it shows. His brilliant and unique voice will always produce a wondefull sound, and his worst lyrics, will usually be a million times more meaningfull than the 'best of the rest'. I'm hoping the album will be another timeless classic, full of inspirational genius. So 5 stars because it is good after all, by no means could it ever be described as a average. This is a different class alltogether. Either way, definately one to BUY, as any GM material is worthy of collection.
