Product Description

CD Description

Soulful American folk: a gorgeous, heart-stopping mixture of the longing you get in saudade — singers like Cesaria Evora and Joao Gilberto — and political protest. Will Oldham's in there; so is Dionne Warwick. Simone has toured extensively, from Lincoln Center in New York to WOMAD in the UK, the Green Man Festival in Wales and throughout Europe. I Am The Man was a favorite with critics from MOJO to the Daily Mail and the single "The Beep Beep Song" became the soundtrack for a world-wide, award-winning ad campaign for Audi. "For those bewitched by the posthumous small-hours voice of Karen Dalton, here is a living echo of that still, small, intensely concentrated spirit. ...an intimate prettiness concealing within the rosebud the thorns of subtly articulated political protest and the warped, eerie gaze on human weakness that has been The Velvet Underground's legacy to the modern folk idiom. I Am The Man is a summer soundtrack of charm and beguiling depths." Four Star Review **** MOJO

Quiet, but nice 17 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
There I was watching the TV at the end of England vs Russia and I heard this song, the Beep Beep Song in fact. Lovely. Then the penny dropped. I had seen Simone White the previous night supporting Stephen Fretwell at The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham. Regretably the noisey, chatty oiks at the concert were a little disrespectful to Simone. Shame on them. She was great and this LP is good too. A little bit Joni maybe, but definitely the start of a promising career in song.

Wish I could afford the Audi. I can't. But Simone's LP is better by a country mile and the Beep Beep song will soon be loitering in your hearts.

the best! 12 Jan 2008

one of the best albums i own *and i own alot*
a nice fresh and whimsical melancholic summeresque album.i can see myself drinking a mojito basking in the sunshine on my patio *accompanied by 1950's sunglasses and tea dress* ;-)

by far the best song is beep beep beep but in no way does this mean that the rest of the album is mediocre...completely the opposite.worth the money...and youll be beep beep beeping for days.

From the opening line of the jazzy opening track "I Didn't Have Any Summer Romance" I got a feeling I was going to love this album. She certainly starts it as she meant to go on, with wonderful lyrics, catchy tunes, beautiful melodies, and a gorgeous voice all the way through. Many people will have heard the memorable 1-and-a-half minute gem "The Beep Beep Song" from the Audi R8 ad, but this is one of many gems on this CD. You will surely be smiling when you hear the catchy, quirky title track, "Why Is Your Raincoat Always Crying" and "The American War", as you will feel tingly when listening to the stunning "Worm Was Word" and "Roses Are Not Red". Highly recommended!
