Product Description

Fairy godmothers exist, even in the tranquil hills of Ireland…

Once upon a time, in the beautiful town of Carrickwell, lived three women. Three women who thought they had life pretty much mapped out.

Ambitious Mel had a high-flying career, caring Daisy wanted a child with the boyfriend who was everything to her, and hot-headed Cleo was ready to step into the family business once she’d finished her hotel management degree.

Until the landscape shifted and it all came tumbling down.

Now Mel’s job comes second to the guilt of being a working mum-of-two.

What should be the most natural thing in the world for Daisy becomes the most torturous.

And Cleo has to watch the cherished family business crumble along with her relationship with her parents and siblings.

Suddenly everything the three women have always worked for, always desired, looks in jeopardy.

But Carrickwell is a magical place. Nestled in the shadows of Mount Carraig, it’s as ancient as time itself. And the opening of the new Clouds Hill spa by Leah – a woman with her own secret turmoil – is destined to cause ripples no one could ever have imagined. The arrival of Leah brings change for Mel, Daisy and Cleo – and the courage to find out what really matters, always and forever…

Formulaic chick lit 11 May 2007
By DubaiReader TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
There was nothing exciting about this book. Tediously formulaic, we spend the first 200 pages being introduced to Cleo, Mel and Daisy, each with their individual problems. They eventually meet at Cloud's Hill Spa, a luxurious retreat that has opened in their village. The proprietor, Leah, an impossibly perfect woman, is the catalyst who guides them to solve all their problems and move on in their lives.

A predictable, easy read, but not earth shattering.

Format:Hardcover
Cathy Kelly reminds me of Maeve Binchy. But she does not just copy the style of Binchy , she builds on it.
Both authors have a great talent for capturing the spirit of todays modern woman in Irerland.
Three woman, all with diffrent pritoies , outlook on life and all living in the 'tranqiul' country area , outside of Dublin.
It follows the tale of these women, in a warm and wleocming story, with the superb balance of comedy and drama. There is the real bittersweet taste of Binchy in the novel, but with charctersation which I think is far better, and a lot of detail.
You finish this book thinking you know these women, feeling for them, and even wishing them well.
Certainly an excellent summers read, and highly recomended , paticualry now if you can get it in hardback, with a lovely lace bookmark it looks pride of palce on a bookshelf.

Oh So Boring 30 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback
Of all novels ive read by Cathy Kelly, so far this one was my least favourite. I didnt like the story line and the characters were so unlikable, I mean all of them.

Bad tempered Cleo, her parents keep her out of all the plans for the hotel business, not suprising because she spends the whole novel shooting people 'looks that could kill' and loosing her temper over anything that doesnt go her way.

Daisy whos so unhappy she spends her time drinking wine and eating chocolate, shes so bitter throughout the novel that I honestly didnt want to read on. It was hard to sympathise with her, even though she's had such a rough time of it becuse she just comes across as such a sorry case.

We re subjected to every little detail of Mel's life from what her kids eat for breakfast to what underwear she can afford. Given that every other character in the book has had it so hard in life I spent the whole novel waiting for her to get hit by a train or a tree to fall on her head! But if you want to know every little detail about a mothers life, this is the character for you.

There was some parts of this book that reminded me of a Maeve Binchy book though. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy Maeve Binchy books, when there written by Maeve Binchy.
