4.0 out of 5 stars A wide-ranging and well researched analysis of Aalto's work., 9 Dec 1999
By A Customer
Peter Reed's book is an interesting contribution contribution to the understanding of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto's work. Indeed, his book goes well beyond a simple and tedious expose of Aalto's work but digs deep into the concepts and philosophy behind his creations. Furthemore, the author concetrates on the vary wide range of buildings the architect is responsible for, and not just the public buildings he is best known for. He even devotes some of the book to furniture and design. Peter Reed's book is also well documented and researched as well as comprehensively illustrated. All this makes for a very good book, which I would recommend, although its price is a sizeable inconvenient.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just the standards, 27 July 2000
By Nancy L. Dowd - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Alvar Aalto: between Humanism and Materialism (Hardcover)
This is a fabulous book for real students of modernism. This monograph goes beyond the handful of buildings we're used to seeing by this great architect. Aalto appears to be getting his just rewards these days as more and more of us return to his work.

By Gloria Ortiz Parada - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Alvar Aalto: Between Humanism and Materialism (Hardcover)
aalto is the master, and this book prove it. Now days with the sustainble issue everywhere this architect raises from the grave, almost a century ahead of his time the finland master takes over with the holistic aproach to the discipline.
