I bought this based on reviews for the gold version, which I assume is essentially the same. The black and gold combination is stunning and the keys all move smoothly with no problems negotiating the break. Over all I am very pleased with the purchase, but buyers should be aware of a few points which can be improved upon.
Reed - the one supplied was attached to the mouthpiece, with no reed guard, and would only work in the middle of the range. I changed it for a Rico, which immediately improved matters.
Mouthpiece - with the new reed I could just about get all the notes but it became much easier when I changed the mouthpiece for a Yamaha 4C (about £25). I'm not an expert but this was recommended to facilitate the highest and lowest notes and the price seemed commensurate with the comparatively low cost of the saxophone. (I already had a tenor sax so was confident my technique was not at fault - otherwise it could have been off-putting.)
Strap - not as urgent for replacement as the reed and mouthpiece, but it has no padding so I would suggest either padding it yourself or getting a replacement. Younger (or other smaller) players may find the harness (over both shoulders) kind particularly useful.
There is no pull-through supplied, which I consider essential for cleaning. There is a padsaver, but not of the leading brand so I'll probably change that too - this one seems a bit too fluffy.
The case is fairly light weight and hard, so should provide ample protection.
Gear4music sent the sax on the day of the order, by ParcelForce's next working day service (I paid an extra £2 for express delivery). Unfortunately as I ordered on Friday this meant I didn't get it until Monday, but the company seems very efficient and on any other week day the delivery would have been great. I'm planning to try more of their basic starter range instruments as it seems like a good way to have a go without spending a fortune.
