5.0 out of 5 stars It kicks Lonely Planet into the weeds., 1 July 2008

These Michelin guides are indispensable for travel in France. The accommodation and food recommendations can be a bit off target (a restaurant or B&B can change quickly) but the village-by-village, town-by-town detail listed in easy A-Z format gives you information that doesn't really date, and gives insight to a world of beautiful backwaters that may otherwise be missed. A real key to France. It kicks Lonely Planet into the weeds.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sketchy and not user friendly., 10 April 2010
Finding an English language guide in preparation for our holiday in Alsace proved very difficult so we bought this guide by default - we normally prefer the Rough Guide books as they are intuitively laid-out and are ideal for planning a holiday.

This book, however, is the exact opposite. The alphabetical organisation is alright if you want to look up a town but you need to use it in conjunction with a map to find the places of interest in your vicinity. This guide also covers far too much territory (unless you're on a driving holiday) so there is never enough information about the places you're visiting - the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy's entry for Earth springs to mind ("mostly harmless").

There is a French language Michelin guide to Alsace alone, but as it is little more than an extract of this book it isn't much help either.

If you're looking for a really good guide to Alsace, look no further than the book we found in the tourist information office in Strasbourg (ISBN 978-3-929228-93-9, published by Kraichgau Verlag).

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative guidebook, but poorly constructed, 28 May 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Alsace Lorraine Champagne Green Guide (Michelin Green Guides) (Paperback)
We recently travelled through this region and purchased the English version of this guide in Strasbourg.
Whilst the content is fairly comprehensive and up to date, the actual layout of the guide is quite poorly constructed. Rather than spilting the guide into three distinct sections they list the towns / areas of interest in alphabetical order. As such you have to flick backwards and forwards frequently to find the piece of information you require. There was also a distinct lack of photographs to illustrate the guide. A plus point was that it was linked to the Michelin touring guide we were using.
