This is a fantastic little book packed with all the information required to safety embark on your first alpine peak. The contents are divided into somewhat arbitrary headings, sorted into alphabetical order, but will tell you where to go, what to take up the mountain, and very importantly, good easy to follow rule of thumb information about the ropework required to cross glaciers and climb the peaks. Informative and inspiring.

This is a great little book. I read it back to cover before my first trip to the alps and then it went on to do a tour of my friends on our campsite in Chamomix. Its really concise which means its an easy read and a great tool for revising techniques before a trip. I'm not sure how good it would be for someone who has never rock climbed or mountaineered before so if you are a complete beginner I'd recommend you team it with a more detailed book and preferably a course as well. Happy climbing!

I wanted to find a book that would be read and valued.
This was a special gift for a milestone birthday so I was delighted to have this feedback:
'feel free to give it 5 stars and say it's crevasse-tastic. It is very useful though, with good photos of rope technique. It is also a recommended text for everyone doing winter mountaineering so that's good.'
As safety is timeless I would recommend this book as a practical guide to anyone looking for a present for a son, daughter or loved one who is determined to indulge in the thrills of mountaineering.

concise guide to climbing
Good book, I enjoyed the way it is written, almost (but not quite) bullet form information, maximum info, minimum time needed to obtain it. Reasonably comprehensive.
