Essential for any of the areas it covers, lots of helpful info, especially where you are likely to find which plants.
Very easy to use and light to carry.
But depending on where you are botanising you will probably need other books too.

I've been searching for this book for some time. As it is out-of-print some outlets have been asking silly money. I found it on Amazon advertised by World of Books. The flower guide arrived today and it is first class. In good condition and invaluable as the best guide for identifying flowers which grow at over 1,000 metres in Britain and Europe

It is a shame it is out of print now, and you have to pay over the odds to get a copy

Very glad to find this out of print gem, although it was well thumbed and just about acceptable rather than "very good"

"Alpine Flowers of Britain and Europe" is a portable field guide signed Christopher Grey-Wilson and Marjorie Blamey.

It covers the high mountain ranges of Western and Central Europe: the Alps, the Apennines, the Carpathians, the Cevennes and the Massif Central, the Cantabrian Mountains, the Pyrenees, and the mountainous regions of Britain and north-western Europe.

All flowering plants except the unfortunate grasses, sedges and rushes are included. Aliens are not included either.

I recognize the illustrations in this field guide - they seem to be taken straight from "Wild Flowers of Britain and Northern Europe" by Richard Fitter, Alastair Fitter and...surprise, Marjorie Blamey. The colour plates are just as unwieldy.

Still, if you're idea of a good time includes climbing the mountain tops of Europe just to get hold of an Edelweiss, sure thing, this is the book for you!
