5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful & beautiful to look at. 23 Aug 2011
By Scriabinmahler TOP 500 REVIEWER
This superb guidebook is not just useful but beautiful to look at too. Simply flipping through the pages already gives you much excitement and motivation to plan whatever climbs that suits your ability. Each Alpine 4000er is presented with striking colour photos, maps, history of ascents, detailed descriptions of difficulty rating, efforts, dangers, pleasures and features of climbs, and alternative routes. Inside of the book covers show overview maps of all the major mountain ranges; Bernese Oberland, Pennine Alps / Alpes Valais, Grand Combin Massif and Mont Blanc Massif. A wonderful companion to all climbers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great place to start 17 Jan 2012
By RMCT
I've had this book since 2004 and although rather worn now, it is very much a pre-requisite for trips to the Alps. It mainly details the 'normal routes', so if you are looking for detail of the harder routes you need to go the Alpine Club guidebooks, but it remains useful to start the planning process when deciding what mountain, how to reach it, what hut to use and then route alternatives. A very good starting point for any trip to the Alps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, well-written and accessible 25 Feb 2010
This is the standard work if you're interested in the 4000m peaks in the Alps. Route descriptions are good, and although the focus is on the normal routes, there are some variations listed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alpine 4000 metre peaks 5 Mar 2011
By paul s
Good quality book with fantastic pictures. I will be using it with the valais alps east climbing guide to help me plan my next trip to saas fee & zermatt area! The book covers the classic routes mostly pd & ad routes with suggestions of huts you can use for your ascents! The book covers a massive area so is not to detailed but I have found it useful when used with the climbing guide for the area you visiting! Useful book !
