Review

This lovely book explores every facet of his life and work (Artists & Illustrators )

This beautiful, informative book is a must-have for anyone who has an interest in 19th century style (Period Ideas )

Product Description

Generally agreed to be one of the most important contributors to Art Nouveau, the Czech artist Alphonse Mucha was trained, celebrated and lived most of his life in Paris. His unforgettably iconic images of Sarah Bernhardt and others embody the spirit of the fin de siècle. But underneath his successful career as an artist and poster designer lay a passionate Slav nationalist whose most important and long neglected works are still being painstakingly restored and exhibited in the Czech republic.

This book is the first comprehensive overview of his life and work and is published in association with the Mucha Museum in Prague.

Format:Hardcover
This book shows Mucha to be more than the exquisite poster artist we all know him to be. It has sections on his posters, decorative panels, paintings, photographs, jewellery and decorative arts. The reproductions are much truer to the original beautiful colours than other books on the marketplace, and the essays by art historians are illuminating without descending into academic jargon. As a Mucha lover I can't recommend it highly enough!

A lovely book 9 Sep 2010
By Mrs H
Format:Hardcover
Beautiful pictures obviously, a great portfolio. Having been to the Mucha museum and been unable to afford the indepth book there this is virtually the same. For any lover of Mucha or people with an interest in art in general, all genres, this is a must.

A work of Art 4 May 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is really well done. It gives us an overview of Mucha's work and life.
I was a tad disappointed not to find all the pieces of his collection in there but overall, a really good art book.
