I purchased this unit to replace an aging glass stand now that I have my 40" Bravia. It comes flat packed but its fairly straight forward to put together and it certainly is solid once up.

The glass shelves can be mounted in one of two positions (or not at all) and the centre space can be used for housing the centre speaker of your 5.1 system if its small enough (as I have done).

I am extremely happy with this purchase but there are a few things to be aware of that may influence your decision to purchase the unit:

1. If you have a 'large' AV receiver then this unit will struggle to house it especially if you use optical cables (as I do). My Denon 1907 unit fits (although its tight) but the optical cables stick out too far and hit the back facia. I have resolved this by channelling out a hole specifically for these connections. My Sony DVD recorder has plenty of space to the rear but only just goes in past the door hinges.
2. If any of your equipment runs 'hot' such as a PS3 or Xbox 360, you will need to leave the unit's access door down to allow for ventilation!!! I tried using the PS3 with the door opened just a couple of inches but the heat build up in the compartment meant the fans in the unit were running at maximum. Very noisy and it ultimately can damage the equipment.

One option is to just leave the rear panel off but this leaves your equipment open to the environment when not in use (kids, pets etc) and it kind of negates the idea of a closeable cabinet.

In conclusion - a fantastic unit (especially for the price) but not for you if you own larger equipment or can't face using the unit with the door down hence only 4/5.

We were looking for an enclosed cabinet for our AV equipment and the Alphason ABR 1100 has exceeded all of our expectations.

It comes as a flat pack, however it is of exceptional quality and once constructed it is sturdier than many ready made pieces!

There are 4 large holes in the back panel for cables and minimal ventilation that is suitable for freeview boxes and a Wii, however there is not enough ventilation for a PS3. To provide the required cooling you will either need to leave the front open when using the PS3 or, as I have done, cut a hole in the rear panel and fit a 120mm fan running silently at 5v to expel the hot air this then allows you to keep the door shut and blocks almost all of the PS3 fan noise.

I would fully recommend for people who are looking for an enclosed AV cabinet.

I am very happy with this unit, it came as quickly as expected, the packaging was robust and there were no faults upon arrival.

The build quality is very good and it went together easily as long as you follow the instructions.

Now it is together and has the system in it, it looks as good as I had hoped and would recommend it and the supplier without hessitation.
