Book Description

25 Feb 2010

Natalie and her sisters have known Tom and his family forever. They climbed trees together, scraped knees on the same pavements and, in taking shared steps towards adulthood, shaped bonds that would last a lifetime.

So when Natalie's long-term love walks out on her, Tom's is the much-needed shoulder she cries on. And Tom dreams up an ingenious way to dry her tears: a series of Alphabet Weekends - starting with A for Abseiling - to make her forget the heartache and, he hopes, to make her see what's been staring her in the face all these years. His genuine love for her.

But as they tumble from A to Z, their families and friends face broken hearts and tragedies of their own. Can the Alphabet Weekends unlock love in all its many and wonderful guises? And not just for Natalie and Tom, but for everyone they care about?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 15 April 2010
Format:Paperback
As soon as I started reading this book and it had me hooked. I could not put it down. It is such a fun book to read and there are not to many people where you loose track of who you are reading about. This book is also quite funny in places. I would recommend this book if you are going on holiday as it will pass the time of day.
If you like a book with a bit of romance than this is the book for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars mediocre chick lit 26 Mar 2010
By Pam Dhinsa VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
This book is okay, not brilliant but not boring either. It's a good light read for a weekend or holiday.
The main characters are Natalie and Tom, thirty-somethings who have been friends since they were children. Natalie has recently been dumped by her long-term boyfriend, Simon. To help her get over this heartbreak, Tom suggests the aplhabet weekends, where they alternately think of activities beginning with a, b, c etc..to do on a weekend. From the beginning Tom makes it clear that these weekends are supposed to make Natalie see him as boyfriend material not in the current friend/sibling way that she sees him. The reader knows the ending from the very start, it's no surprise but it is a sweet, romantic journey getting there.
I found the stories of Natalie's parents and Tom's brother and his wife, which are side stories to the main romantic plot to be quite depressing and boring. I can see that the author has included them to make the story more serious and age-encompassing but I would have been happy with the straight forward romance. I wish I'd just borrowed this from the library, rather than bought it as I'm unlikely to ever re-read it. An okayish romantic story.
