Before I get started with this review, I'd like to take the opportunity to thank the talented author Katie Reus for her page turning, engaging book which I thankfully won through goodreads.

I absolutely fell in love with Ana's character, being so head strong (awesomeness), but when Connor does come back into her life after almost 50 years, and promising her the much needed protection that she and her pack needs; so tempting, it's almost enough to sway Ana into forgetting how he had walked out of her life, breaking her heart in the process. But desperate for the safety of her pack, and a Alpha male, reluctantly Ana accepts is offer to mate; to claim her as his own.
Although her pack respects her strong leadership, Ana also knows that she won't be able to hold it for long. Her pack is easy prey, pickings for the more aggressive males or her breed, so vulnerable to be taken over. Taggart has already shown, and proven the lengths a Alpha wolf will go to claim her, her pack and her land.
More shifters turn up dead and even humans are thrown into the mess/mix. Now we have to try to figure out who is trying to destroy Ana's pack, and can Connor protect them? Will Connor lose, both in love, and promised protection?
I completely, and absolutely loved Alpha Instinct, carrying it everywhere I went till I was finished. Never wanting to put it down. ( well of course I had to at times...)
Author Katie Reus is a wildly awesome writer, giving amazing vivid details of her characters and the creation of the world which they live in. Making Alpha Instinct an intriguing start to the Moon Shifter series, and I patiently, eagerly await the next book, "Primal Possession" due for release September 2012.
Overall the book was immensely captivating, a page turner with great romance, full of action that leaves you hanging on the edge wanting more.
A must read for all lovers of paranormal romance.. So make sure you add this book to your list. It's fantastic and accelerating!!!

I enjoyed this book tremendously, a great start to a new series.
Ana Cordona is now the leader of a pack of women shifters after poison killed many in their group, including her parents. She is trying to keep things together while trouble is coming at her from many directions. As she is defending herself against a neighbor (Sean Taggart) who is particularly bothersome, a man (along with his pack mates) from her past comes to help.
Conner Armstrong lived on the ranch with the Cordona family many years ago and Ana thought that they would be mates in time, until the day he walked away without a word. He had his reasons for leaving and although he does not want to tell Ana, he still has strong feelings for her. He has heard about her troubles and is back to become the Alpha of the pack to help, the only condition he has is that she becomes his mate. Conner would prefer that Ana become his bond-mate but will take it slow until he can again gain her trust.
Several years ago, Shifters and Vampires came out to the world and though they are living in the open there are still many prejudices, many choose to live quiet lives within their own groups. As Ana and Conner sort out their personal issues they must deal with the fact that people in their neighboring small town are getting hurt with the blame falling on shifters. The violence escalates and shifters on their own land start to get hurt, Ana and Conner realize they may need to contact the council to help with the continuing problems.
The story is a gripping journey with many twists and turns as forces from several sides bring about an eventful conclusion. I enjoyed Ana and Conner's chemistry very much their as the feelings they have for each other pickup from years ago. I also liked the secondary characters and will look forward to seeing them again in future books.

Alpha Instinct is the first book in Katie Reus' MOON SHIFTER series and a great beginning to a new series.
Ana Cordova is the Alpha of the now all female Cordova pack since the pack members were poisoned and all the males in the pack dies, along with all the pregnant females shifters. Her father and intended mate were also amongst the victims of the poisoning. Now Anna is trying to protect the rest of her pack and make sure her sisters and cousins are safe, which is becoming harder and harder by the day. Sean Taggart, the pack Alpha living on the land next to Anna's wants to take over Anna's pack and claim Anna as his mate. Only problem is he's a drug dealing lunatic and willing to do anything to claim Anna. Right when he's about to attack Anna, Connor and Liam Armstrong swoop in to save her. And boy is Anna shocked to see him. He left her 50 years ago without a word and broke her heart.
Connor Armstrong has known Anna was his mate ever since he laid eyes on her the first time. He's suffered the last 50 years without her and now that he found out that all the males in Anna's pack dies and she's unprotected, he will do anything to protect her. Even offer her protection and the safety of him as the new Alpha of her pack. If, she agree to be his mate. He knows he's going to have to work at regaining Anna's trust but he's willing to do whatever he has to to make her love him again. But the problems are much more than Connor knew. Someone is still trying to take out Anna and her pack and won't stop until every last member of the Cordova pack is dead.
I really enjoyed this book. Anna is a strong female heroine that will do anything to protect her family. She's loved Connor for years and was brokenhearted when he left her. Now that he's back she willing to mate him to save her family but she plans to keep her out out of it. Yeah right!
Connor is the epitome of the male Alpha wolf. He's strong, dominant protective of his pack.
I also loved Connor's brother Liam. His story was secondary is this book as he finds his mate, a human named December. Connor is trying to get to know December but she is weary of Liam. She is drawn to him but scared because her father was murdered by a feral wold shifter. It's only her and her brother, who also happens to be the sheriff in town. And her brother wants no one near his sister, especially a shifter. But now that a gang of human activists that hate shifters has targeted December, its going to take more than her brother to help protect her.
I am looking forward to the second book in the series, "Primal Possession" which will be a full length novel and the story of Liam and December and is scheduled to be released on September 4 2012.
There is also an enovella, "Lover's Instinct" scheduled to release in August 2012.
I can't wait to read more about the other members in Connor's pack that were introduced as well.

defiantly planning on continuing with Liam's mating journey...

After all the men and pregnant woman of her pack dies Ana stepped up as the Alpha Female. The only problem with that is that in her world the men have all the power and woman are not given the support to lead their own pack. A neighboring Alpha is set on having Ana and her pack for himself and will stop at nothing to have it. All this leads Ana to accepts the protection and help of her childhood love Connor even though she vows not to let him back in her heart because she doesn't want to get hurt again.
I enjoyed watching Ana and Connor shift around their feelings for each other. From the start you could feel their bond and protectiveness as well as their attraction for each other. Connor stated off way to pushy which lead Ana to believe he wasn't really wanting her but the pack she had behind her and because of Ana's reaction to him Connor pushed that much more to get her to want him as a mate. The sexual tension was there from the start and it was quite a frustrating ride until they finally gave into each other. There was a great amount of conflict, action and emotion behind ALPHA INSTINCT. I had many guesses at who was responsible for poisoning the pack but I didn't see the real killer until they were about to be revealed. There were a few slow parts but Katie did a good job of keeping me interested in the story. I enjoyed getting to know all the secondary characters. I was kinda sad to see that future books would be following different characters as they find their mates but Ana and Connor were a great start to the series.
Liam, Connor's brother starts his journey with his mate in the background of ALPHA INSTINCT I liked getting to know him and his match a little before their book starts next.
