This arrives in flat-pack form. The components consist of a circular white-painted metal frame with spokes which stick out, a set of around sixteen humming bird pieces, two transparent sheets of plastic and four studs which are used to fix the sheets of plastic together.
The list of items you receive should include a 29mm lamp holder adapter, but mine came without this part. It did, however, fit my existing standard fitting perfectly.
It actually comes with perfectly good assembly instructions but in case you are worried about the self assembly aspect (as, being completely impractical, I was) here's a quick description. The first task is to fit the plastic sheets to the wheel. This is easily done but do make sure that the when you start you have the wheel facing with ridged ends facing up - the humming bird pieces will hang off these ridges. Once this has been done you have a transparent cylinder attached to your frame. The humming bird pieces then need to be slotted onto the frame - long pieces on the short spokes and short pieces on the longer spokes. The shade can then be hung.
The instructions indicate that nothing stronger than a 60W light bulb should be used.
The humming bird pieces are made of a thin white shiny flexible plastic. I have it hanging in my bedroom where it looks like what it is - an inexpensive bit of fun which shows no sign of falling apart now that it is assembled. I like it very much.
