In this second, and last, volume of the new and very different Alpha Flight, we get the final six issues (7-12) collected in one book. The first arc, Waxing Poetic, has the team fighting wax figures of the North American superheroes we all know and love and they're being controlled at the hands of the Manimator! The second story arc, Days of Future Present, Past Participle, has the Alpha Flight team encountering Flashback, of Omega Flight, and in a plot to save his life from his death that he witnessed, they completely ruin the time/space continuum and completely change the world as we know it by messing with magical time travel! However, it takes some influence of the original Alpha Flight team to stop the madness!
Reading this really lets you see why this series was cancelled. Between the Deadpool-like fourth-wall references and the goofy, terrible writing, I'm glad Alpha Flight is no longer so terrible. Dialogue like "Math is hard." and speech bubbles that take up the entire frame (and sometimes, without spacing as well) just makes this book hard to read. Add on top of that, the goofy story and cartoony art and the even goofier Alpha Flight team and you have a mess. As icing on the cake, you have the very odd love triangle between Yukon Jack, Puck, and Major Mapleleaf and the even weirder relationship between Centennial and Nemesis. Overall, avoid it unless you're an avid collector of all things Alpha Flight.
