4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty, could be sweeter, but really convenient 6 Feb 2014
By R. WEST-SOLEY TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Conveniently packaged, I find these sachets really handy to take to work as a late afternoon (or working late in the office) snack. One gripe I have is that they're not really sweet enough on their own - for my taste at least, they really need a bit of honey or sugar to sweeten them up, and taste a little bland otherwise. They're not exactly jam-packed with raisins, but you can definitely taste a nice hazelnut flavour, so I do prefer them to plain porridge.

For the price, you get four boxes of eight sachets, which is pretty good value (and makes for cheap lunchbox food if you have a microwave at work!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good porridge 1 Feb 2014
By A. Woods VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is a good porridge which is more interesting than ordinary porridge as it has tiny bits of nut and raisin in it. It is also not too high in calories as the nuts are cut up small. The porridge was a tiny bit thin in consistency so I use slightly less milk than stated on the instructions. I will look at the whole new range in the supermarket.

3.0 out of 5 stars dissappointing .... 29 Jan 2014
By pompeyman VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I would not buy this product, Quakers instant porridge is far superior. I had to give this an extra 30 seconds in my microwave, as mine is a 800 watt and the instructions are for a 850 watt. Otherwise it was far too runny. It is creamy but not smooth enough, bits of flake get in your teeth, and the raisin and nut content is light. Quite filling but the best I can give it is an OK.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fruity & Nutty 28 Jan 2014
By Angela Lovelace VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is an ideal flavour if you prefer the traditional taste of porridge without too much fruity flavours. It is a bit like porridge muesli. The almonds are not really detectable taste wise but the raisins and hazelnuts are. Quick and easy to make, just zap in the microwave for two minutes, and a lot less mess than hob porridge, although that is still the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising! 20 Jan 2014
By Book Critic VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I wasn't expecting to like this, based on the assessment of a friend who had tried it and declared it 'warm alpen'. I'm not fond of Alpen, too dusty and dry and much too sweet for me, but this porridge wasn't 'warm Alpen' at all; it was a very pleasant surprise, being deliciously nutty and not at all sugary, just the gentle, natural sweetness of raisins. I've really enjoyed it and will definitely be buying more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not keen - stick to normal porridge 9 Jan 2014
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm not madly keen on this Alpen porridge. If you follow the quantities suggested, the porridge turns out very stodgy. Even our toddler, who normally devours porridge, left hers. It's very sweet too. We'll be sticking to normal porridge oats and adding our own honey etc to it. Nicer and cheaper.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too sweet. 31 Dec 2013
By Moonshine. VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
If this is porridge then my name is Freddie Flintstone. I prefer Tesco organic porridge which has 1% sugar, 6% fat, 12.1% protein and is 100% oats. This is better than many breakfast cereals which have 33% sugar, but sugary breakfast cereals are not great. The taste of proper porridge is much superior. Starting a child on this would be better than cornflakes or Coco Pops, but what wouldn't be? It is too processed and tastes like it. What is wheat doing in it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for winter 24 Dec 2013
By C. FULLER TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I have used other varieties of this porridge and can confirm it is an excellent and quick alternative to the old fashioned oates products that are also available. I have found it best to use a larger serving bowl when making this up in the microwave as you can stir it much more easily if the bowl is of a larger size than that normally used. I think the appeal of this product is good taste and speed.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit hit and miss
I actually quite like this. It tastes good - not overly sweet - and it's a decent sized portion. For a breakfast cereal, it's comparatively healthy so that's not bad. Read more

I'm a self-confessed Alpen addict. It's the breakfast cereal of the gods, and, like ambrosia, rarely does it grace the bowls of this post-depression family. Read more
