Product Description

Product Description

We've been creating our Alpen recipes for nearly forty years now - expertly blending flavours and textures to deliver that unique Alpen taste experience, we select only the very best ingredients. We are very excited to share our latest variety with you - new from Alpen, Trail Bars!

There’s no question that family life has changed a lot since 1932. The classic family unit has had to adapt as we’ve all become busier over the years, and the same could be said for our range of products. To meet these changing needs we have crafted a range of bars which can be enjoyed on the go.

The phrase ‘you can’t be good all of the time’ may not actually stand up in the Weetabix mill, because even with our more tempting cereals and bars, we like to try and take a balanced approach.

Box Contains

Each order comes with 12 x Alpen Berries Trail Bar 48g

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty with a nice cranberry tang 3 Mar 2014
By David B VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I like the slightly tangy cranberry 'tang' in these, as well as the nutty texture and flavour. Snack bars like this should not of themselves be thought of as especially 'healthy', more so than any other biscuit, as there's plenty of glucose syrup and suger in them. It struck me that bars like this, which come with a long shelf life, might be good as part of emergency rations. We don't traditionally think of the UK as being prone to natural disasters, but this winter we have seen plenty of reports of people losing the electricity supply due to storms, and of being flooded out of their homes. It is a good idea to keep an emergency "go bag" accessible in the home. Various online sources suggest suitable contents for such kits, including bottled water and snacks. A box of snack bars like this could be a useful part of such contents and could prove useful to a family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Energy when Out and About. 2 Mar 2014
By Bruce TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
As a big fan of Alpen Muesli, I was keen to try these and they come in a large, substantial cardboard box - the sort of thing you would see on the counter of a small shop. You get 12 individually wrapped bars and they are a nice size to fit in a packed lunch or in your rucksack, when out walking in the countryside, for example.

I did like the taste and texture - although they are very sweet. In fact they probably have too much sugar, for them to be an everyday snack - but they are good for a burst of energy, when you are out doing some kind of exercise - ideal for Ramblers, perhaps. A single bar is quite substantial and fills you up, unlike maybe a chocolate bar and that is probably its advantage. It's probably not any healthier, but it does contain more fibre and is thus more filling.

Overall, I can see them being a useful addition to anybody's rucksack when out walking, if you like the taste of Alpen in a wrapped bar.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too sweet and crumbly for me 1 Mar 2014
By Denise4891 TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
These cereal bars were a bit too sweet for my taste. There’s certainly plenty of fruit but also a bit too much sugar and syrup. Each 48g bar contains 180 calories, so they’re not a ‘light’ snack. The fat content isn’t too bad at 2.7g (0.4g saturates) but the sugar is pretty high at 14g. When I got to the bottom of the bar it had crumbled and fallen apart, so it was also a bit messy.

So overall I would have preferred a more oaty, less sweet taste. I gave one to a colleague to try and she wasn't too bothered about the sweetness, but she did think the sharp blueberry/cranberry smell (we weren't sure which it was) was a bit overpowering.

4.0 out of 5 stars Munched Down 13 April 2014
By P. G. Strachan VINE VOICE

Not my personal favourite....I found they tasted ever so slightly oily....but they didn't survive long on the biscuit shelf so that would suggest the rest of the family were more favourably disposed towards them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good energy food 6 April 2014
By M. Dale
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I got a box of these to use as snacks when doing some mountaineering in Scotland earlier this year. They hold together well when being bashed about in a rucksack and don't taste as bland as some of the other cereal / trail bars out there, which is good. About as good as you can expect a cereal bar to be, really!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty! 4 April 2014
By Francois The Armaldo VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm a fan of Alpen bars; I've always found them a little more filling than your average special K cereal bar (you get more for your mouthful!) plus I tend to prefer Alpen's range of flavours.

While these Trail Bars are packaged to look a little more basic than the usual ones with the yummy yoghurt drizzled on top, they are just as good for filling that snack hole between meals where you'd usually reach for a biscuit, very chewy and just as tasty (although without the slightly indulgent sweetness of other flavours).

I will however warn of the calorie count! The Alpen bars I've bought previously were less than around 100 cals a bar while I was surprised to find that these were nearly double that - so great for an energy boost if you're out and about, but not so great if you're on a diet and hoping cereal bars will be less calorific than a Twix!

3.0 out of 5 stars Just more of what you know 24 Mar 2014
By ravenheart VINE VOICE
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
These were as nice as any other Alpen bar because in all honestly they're really not significantly different to all the other Alpen (or indeed anyone else's) bars - except for the ones with a chocolate or yoghurt coating, obviously.

Anyone who likes the others on the market will enjoy these just as much, and Amazon's prices can't really be faulted. There's not much more too it than that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty energy boost 20 Mar 2014
By Ripple TOP 100 REVIEWER
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I tried my fist one of these as a snack and was impressed with the taste. They are chewy rather than crunchy and are reasonably filling. Taste wise, they are very pleasant. They haven't gone overboard with the fruits but there is just enough to make them not feel like you are chewing the cardboard box they came in. Then, I used them as they should be - on the trail. As an energy boost during a hike, they are excellent and very tasty. They certainly give a much needed energy boost and, while you will probably want a slurp of water afterwards, they are less dry than other cereal bars that I've tried. Good stuff.
