The old barnet seems to have been receding slowly for about twenty years - I`m 36 now and never thought I`d still have noticeable hair at this age. But as the hairline recedes, I`m getting a bit more edgy about it, and thought I should do something. I`ve been using Alpecin since the beginning of August, so six weeks now and feel I can make a qualified judgement.
Has my hair loss stopped? Well, maybe a little. I think there are days when very little hair is lost when I towel dry, and others when it`s much the same as it was. Is my hair visibly different? Again, there seems to be a slightly fuller look - nothing life-changing, but on some days I can feel more positive about it. Does my hair feel different? It isn`t drier, there is no scalp change, and it`s very easy to manage (even though it could do with a cut). Actually, it feels nicely silky after drying. I think it`s important to remember that you should leave it lathered-up for two minutes before rinsing - maybe not doing that is why some reviewers are experiencing dry/flaky scalps?
So all in all, I don`t think there is anything to lose by using Alpecin - I have tried other types of shampoos that make similar claims, but they were much more expensive and didn`t do anything except have a fancy scent. I don`t feel I`ve lost anything by trying this and that there is some improvement in terms of retaining what hair I`ve still got, and cannot afford to lose!

DO NOT BOTHER! 26 Feb 2012
I bought this product from another seller about 2.5 months ago. I only have minimal thinning (male in my late teens) that is not yet noticeable but I feel that I definitely did not benefit from the product at all - in fact I lost more hair than I would have because it dried out my scalp so much - far from an anti-dandruff shampoo.
I admit that some people may have had results from using this but it definitely did not work for me. If you want to stop your hair loss and may be get some re-growth I would use products that contain finasteride (sold as propecia), mnioxidil (sold as regaine and other generic brands) or ketoconazole (in shampoos like nizoral, revita and regenepure). These products are the only ones that have been proven to consistently fight hair loss in the majority of cases - things like Alpecin will only work in selected cases (when androgenic alopecia is not the cause of hair loss). This product contains caffeine which has been shown in clinical trials to help fight against hairloss and many other products contain caffeine (the shampoos mentioned above for example) but it is only one ingredient when, to be brutally honest you will need a combination of ingredients to fight balding to effectively treat your hair loss. Also Alpecin contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate which degrades protein (what your hair is made of) when left on the scalp for a period of time. This menas that any benefits that caffeine has are inhibited by this and as a result your hair feels much weaker and more brittle - particularly if you leave it on for more than the recommended time and use it everyday.
In conclusion, I felt that my hair loss was aggravated by this shampoo and I am now beginning to see results from some of the products mentioned above (minoxidil and revita) after around 3 1/2 weeks of use. By all means give this product a try if you need a low cost method to fight hairloss but to be honest you will achieve better and faster results if you use the more conventional (and more expensive) treatments because (and I can't stress this enough) they are clinically proven to work when the vast majority of hair loss products are not.
To be honest you shouldn't get too screwed up about it all because in the end all you are trying to save is hair - strands of dead protein on your head. Just shave/buzz your head when it becomes noticeable and join a gym and get ripped and you will have no problems.

Good luck :)

Seems to work but it made my hair very dry so returned to my existing shampoo and only use Alpecin every now and then to use it up.

Its seems to be reducing the amount of hair lost after each wash. It does really dry your hair so I have to use it with a conditioner.
