James Patterson is an amazing author.

Warning: if you read one of his books, prepare to spend more money on more of his books.

Along Came A Spider is a very high paced thriller with many twists and turns. I read this book mostly during my journeys to work and the journeys never seemed long enough.

I would highly recommend this book and author to anyone.

Enjoyable first read 14 May 2004
Format:Paperback
I have read some of James Patterson's historical work before and enjoyed that but this was the first of his crime thrillers that I was to experience. Being the first of the Alex Cross series it was an appropropriate place to start. I enjoyed the book which I found easy going throughout although there was never a moment for me where the tension was such that I felt inclined to rapidly turn pages.I felt that a lot more could have been done with the prime bad guy to thicken and excite the plot.. The end of the story was a little predictable and dissapointing. But overall, enjoyable and I will continue to read more of the series.

I've read lots of James Patterson's books but never any of the Alex Cross series. What better way to start than at the beginning?

Along Came A Spider is a pretty grim book. Kidnapped children is the theme and it's disturbing subject matter. It's violent, brutal and uncompromising.

Alex Cross himself is a likeable cop, with a penchant for flouting authority.

Grittier than more recent Patterson books, Along Came A Spider is an excellent introduction to Alex Cross and it's interesting to see how Mr Patterson's writing started.

Addictively terrifying!
Absolute genius. The villain created in this book is the best I've ever come across. Once you read one of these books you'll be reading them all....usually all in one go too.

Bland, barely readable and highly cliched
Along Came A Spider and James Patterson as a writer had both been heavily hyped up to me by friends and booklists, so it was with some excitement that I saved it up for a weekend... Read more

Another Alex Cross adventure
Liked this book so much but hadn't realised I had already read it but I enjoyed it again. The Alex Cross series of James Patterson I am thoroughly enjoying.

The novel that made me love the thriller genre
An amazing plot which kept me from putting the book down at all. A brilliant debut novel, would read over and over again

Mmm, OK I suppose...
Kept my interest - just about - and helped a weekend pass... Not really my bag, but I can see how this sort of book could appeal to many.

Unreadable Tripe
This is the worst book I have ever read. The writing style is beyond redemption, the characters are one dimensional and ridiculous, the plot laughable. Read more

Patterson draws you into his 'Web'
Along Came A Spider is the first of the Alex Cross series and one to hook you from the beginning, as with this and the resulting Cross series, Pattterson is the master of his art. Read more

Along came a disappointing read!
It's hard to put into words just why `Along came a spider' didn't quite do it for me. Could it be the irritating narrative, the short chapters and the lack of characterisation? Read more
