Quaint old western which relies much on the charm of its male star, Gary Cooper. Coop plays a simple cowpoke named Melody Jones who rides into the town of Payneville with his sidekick George, played in his usual grouchy way by William Demarest. To Jones' surprise - and George's dismay - he is mistaken for an outlaw named Monte Jarrad, simply because he has the same initials and Jarrad's description on a 'wanted' poster also fits him.
At first, Jones goes along with it, because the townsfolk are afraid of him, but then he gets more trouble than he bargained for. The marvellous Dan Duryea plays mean Monte Jarrad, although he is not on screen a lot. Difficult to accept Loretta Young in the role of his girl friend, because she was always so nice. Still, she and Coop look good together.
This is fairly lighthearted stuff, but I wouldn't call it a comedy western as stated on the dvd cover. There can be humour in any movie without it being classed as a comedy. Anyway, Coop is cute ( well, he was in those days ) and Young is cuter, and this is pleasant viewing if nothing special.
The sound and picture quality is excellent.
