CD Description
This is the first complete album of solo guitar pieces by the virtuoso guitarist John Etheridge. Etheridge rightly enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the jazz world and beyond and has been described by Pat Metheny as "one of the best guitarists in the world". His range is well illustrated by his years of touring and recording with the iconic Stephane Grappelli while simultaneously doing likewise with the legendary jazz-fusion group, The Soft Machine, he is equally at home on acoustic and electric guitar. Etheridge's solo set is truly something special - he holds audiences on the edge of their seats as he moves from the subtlest acoustic numbers through driving gypsy jazz, soaring blues renditions (often over loops he's just laid down) and superb 'finger style with bass line' interpretations of standards to peerless hard-edged modern jazz guitar. After many years of featuring solo interludes in concerts and on record augmented by the occasional entirely solo performance, John Etheridge has made a live recording of solo guitar pieces some formal, some less structured, using a variety of guitars especially fretless and a six string guitar with lowered bass strings, as well as the conventional instrument. Etheridge has produced a varied and engrossing CD.
