The Same... But Different!,

This review is from: Almost Unplugged (Audio CD)
Really nice album - takes a few listens before getting into it, but once there, it's great to hear the songs played in such a different way with a few covers from the band's influences thrown in.
Reminds me of Bon Jovi's This Left Feels Right album, especially listening to 'The Final Countdown' how it's played in such a different way, yet you can still hum along easily to the new tune. Definitely worth buying for Europe completists out there!

Europe - Almost Unplugged.,

Having been a big fan of Europe for many years I'm bound to review this album favourably. But it has to be said that by any Rock music fans standards Europe are just awesome on this CD.
The set list is excellent and includes Europe's legendary classics - including THAT song. Where Europe performs exceptionally well is their brilliant covers of classic rock tracks that influenced them and their sound, producing cracking versions of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here", UFO's terrific "Love to Love" and Thin Lizzy's "Suicide". A great performance by a massively underrated and all too often overlooked band.

Quality Rock CD,

Recorded in Jan 2008 this was a 'one night only' semi-acoustic performance from Europe with a string quartet.
Of all those 80's hair metal bands I grew up listening to its only Europe, Dokken, and Winger that I still liten to on a semi-regular basis and after listening to this recording its still apparent to my ears exactly why I still listen to them - and that's the combination of Joey's great voice and John's fiery guitar playing. This is quite simply a quality recording that rocks a lot harder than the album title might suspect. Overall the album has a 70's vibe that makes me think of bands like Deep Purple and Free. In fact most of the songs on here could comfortably fit on any of those classic rock 2 or 3 cd packages labelled as 'Greatest Driving Anthems' etc (you know the sort - they always feature 'Ace Of Spades' 'Dont Fear The Reaper' 'Is This Love' 'Every Rose....' etc). The album features 10 Europe songs spanning their career as well as 4 cover versions. Personally I'd have maybe preferred a 12/2 split, but at least this combined with the different vibe of their own classic songs makes this feel like a whole new album rather than just a traditional live album where a band play note for note versions of their well known songs. This is a quite simply a great rock album littered with tasteful guitar licks (Norum fans won't be disappointed). And if anyone's fed up with hearing The Final Countdown again for the umpteenth time then don't worry - the revised version here sounds amazing despite being very different. Even if you never buy the album do try and listen to Europe's own cover of their best known song (its bound to be on youtube at some stage) its a classy affair and beautifully sung with a fitting update of the guitar solo too. This is superior timeless music that most people would enjoy, so bung it in your shopping basket now!!
