Sensual Contemporary Romance

The Perfect Trilogy

Maddy, Christine and Amy are thrilled that their old college suite-mate has written a bestselling book, How to Have the Perfect Life—until they realize she used them as examples of how women let fear screw up their lives. The worst part is…it’s sort of true. Together they make a pact: they each have one year to face down their fears—and maybe show Miss Perfect a thing or two!

Book One: Almost Perfect

A Free Spirit and a Reformed Bad Boy -- a Perfect Match?

Maddy was always the artistic one of the group, alive with color and mischief from her saucy red curls to her vintage hippie skirts. Her challenge, the friends decide, is to get her artwork accepted at a gallery. A job as arts director at a summer camp near Santa Fe—with its multitude of galleries—seems like a start in the right direction.

There’s just one catch: The camp is run by Maddy’s high school flame, Joe, whose heart she broke—okay, smashed—and his anger towards Maddy hasn’t cooled one bit. But neither has their attraction.

Old desires burn hotter than ever as Joe makes it clear there’s only one way back to his heart: She has to get serious about her art. But will falling in love help or hinder Maddy as she struggles to meet her challenge?

    About the Author

Meet Julie Ortolon Reviewers from Publisher’s Weekly to Romantic Times have praised Julie Ortolon’s contemporary romance for being “sizzling,” “fastpaced,” and “filled with genuine heart.” Numerous awards for her work include two Bookseller’s Best Awards. Almost Perfect, book one of her Perfect trilogy was a Rita finalist and was named Best Single Title Contemporary by the readers of Affaire de Coeur magazine. Julie’s road to success as a romance novelist was a bit bumpier than most authors, however. Her struggle with dyslexia left her functionally illiterate until her mid-twenties when she discovered romance novels were worth the effort. To turn her favorite pastime, daydreaming emotionally rich stories, into a career, she taught herself to read, type, and use English as a written language, not just a spoken one. Her struggles made hitting the USA Today list with her first title even more rewarding. When Julie isn’t writing or reading, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and traveling the world. More About the Author

I'm late bloomer when it comes to reading -- and writing. I didn't discover either joy until I discovered romance novels in my early twenties. Now, I'm totally addicted. My biggest joy is bringing all my interests together in my books, to have the chance to celebrate the things that excite me through my characters.

Since I love to travel, all my books are set in places I've actually been. Sometimes those real places morph into fictional places -- like Pearl Island -- but I try to capture the magic of the setting and people in all my books, to make writing them like a trip to a wonderful world where good always triumphs and love always ends in Happily Ever After -- against all odds. That's what makes life worth living, and books worth reading: when someone grabs the brass ring.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Chick-Lit/Romance 17 April 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book. It is not outstanding literature and you won't be shocked or surprised by the way the story unfolds or the ending. However if you enjoy a good, soppy story which is fun to read and which warms the cockles of your heart then this could be for you. It is made even better by the fact it is FOC! The free offer has done it's job well as I am going to download the remaining 2 books in the trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well done. 29 July 2005
By Detra Fitch TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
    Format:Mass Market Paperback
Maddy, Amy, Christine, and Jane were roommates in college ten years ago. Jane became a TV anchor, but has now just published her first self-help book "How To Have The Perfect Life". Maddy, Amy, and Christine are thrilled for Jane, until they realize that Jane has used their lives as bad examples! The three decide to prove Jane wrong. They each have one year to face their biggest fear.
Madeline "Maddy" Mills is the artist of the group. Amy and Christine decides that Maddy's challenge is to get a Sante Fe gallery to accept her art, on commission would be fine. To do so, Maddy decides to accept a job that Mama Fraser offered only a couple of weeks ago. She would go to Sante Fe for the summer months to be the Arts & Crafts Coordinator at Mama's camp site, Camp Enchantment. However, Maddy has no way of knowing that Mama Fraser didn't inform Joe, her son, that Maddy was coming.
Around the age of seventeen Joe had joined the military and planned to make it his career. He informed Maddy of his decision after he had already enlisted and proposed to her. But Maddy wanted art classes and had jut won a full scholarship, so she refused. After all these years, the alpha male side of Joe is still nursing hard feelings. Now, due to a knee injury, Joe is no longer with the Army Rangers. He is the Camp Director. When Maddy shows up, Joe wants nothing more than for her to turn around and leave. But of course Mama Fraser knows how to handle her son, so Maddy stays. And Maddie is out to prove to Joe that she is not the same scared teen he once knew.
**** This is the first book in the "Perfect" trilogy. Each book will be a stand alone tale. No need to wait a year between books either.

2.0 out of 5 stars First in trilogy 22 Oct. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Downloaded this as it was free, whilst a half decent read I have not not yet bothered to download the rest of the trilogy, although I may be tempted to if the price drops. Standard M&B fare not too offensive and reasonably well written - just wish the heronine had had a bit more backbone and believed in herself more. Have little sympathy for wimpish heroines who can barely stand up for themselves and that is the reason for just two stars.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 21 May 2011
    Format:Kindle Edition
Chose this book on a whim didnt expect too much from it thought it would be a really soppy predictable plot but was pleasantly suprised, yes the romance is in there but there is so much more depth and feelings to the story once started i found this book almost impossible to put down the need to know what happened next was too much. The characters were amazing and within reading the first chapter you feel as if you know them really well. Cannot wait to read the next book in the series to find out what happens next to the characters. I would definatly recommend this book to everyone it has something in it for any reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and Nostalgic Tale 13 April 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Surprisingly sweet and nostalgic tale of young love lost and finally regained as adults, and then the growth of understanding of their complexities as a couple (and individuals) to see it take root and flourish.

Really well written, by a new author to me, and thorough enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading the other 2 stories in the trilogy, as well as other offerings by her.

All things considered a 4 star read, and I highly recommend you give it a try, especially as at the time of writing this review it's still be offered as a freebie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing special 8 Dec. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Maddy and her friends each decide to address their biggest fears thus creating the ideal setting for a three book series. Maddy's fear will be overcome if she gets her art work displayed in a gallery. She takes the opportunity to take up a job with her foster mother at a summer camp for children - unfortunately, no one has told Joe who is her old flame and the camp director, and he is not very happy.

This is entirely predictable. Maddy and Joe come together again but have to overcome some hurdles to make a lasting relationship. The book is not particularly deep and there is quite a lot of pseudo-psychology about why Maddy fears to succeed. Overall it is not completely rooted in reality (no CRB checks or equivalent when working with children ?) but that isn't too much of an issue. The start of the book is particularly sharply written setting the scene quickly and Joe's initial hostility is well done but, it does rather get bogged down a bit in Maddy's lack of confidence and a few too many sex scenes. Overall, however, this was an light and entertaining read with no standout features to differentiate it from many other novels of the same kind.
