Product Description

Product Description

Simplicity, quality, and seasonality are the guiding principles behind the menus and recipes of Lora Zarubin. In order to focus on the freshest ingredients, the book is divided by season, each recipe featuring produce, fish, and meat from that season's bounty. The menus and dishes are drawn from Lora's childhood and her extensive travels in Europe and the U.S.

About the Author

Lora Zarubin, a native of San Francisco, knew since she was three years old that cooking was her passion and spent many of her childhood days cooking with her grandmothers. She has traveled extensively throughout Europe, and spent time in India, which helped to form her tastes and her lifelong belief that the best food is regional and seasonal. Zarubin was the founder and owner of "Good Food Catering" in California and in 1992, she opened her own restaurant, Lora, in Greenwich Village to rave reviews from Gourmet magazine and the New York Times. Zarubin closed her namesake restaurant in 1995, and has been House & Garden magazine's food editor since 1996. Tessa Traeger is one of the outstanding still-life photographers of her generation and has exhibited regularly since 1978 in Paris, London, Hamburg, and New York. She is especially known for her photographs taken on large format cameras, many of which were published during her long association with British Vogue.

Best cookbook I own 26 July 2006
By C. Warner - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am amazed this cookbook isn't more popular. The recepies are knock your socks off delicious, and impressive to foodies and picky eaters alike. Arranged seasonally and sorted into menus, I often find myself making entire chapters, and I have co-opted the Caesar Salad as my own. Comparable to The Zuni Cafe Cookbook by Judi Rodgers and Sunday Suppers at Lucques by Suzanne Goin, this book is better. About me: San Francisco cook; haunts the Farmer's Market, all restaurants in Northern Cal.; entertains friends and pizza-loving husband often.

Magnificent Cookbook 2 Mar 2011
By Constance Green - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was recommended to me a year ago by a food writer. They thought I'd find it inspiring since I was writing my own cookbook(The Wild Table). I've treasured I'm Almost Always Hungry ever since. I do not know the author, but I'd love to thank her for this rock solid book. The recipes, the design, the photography and the comfy writing style have made it one of my "go to" cookbooks. The walnut cakes and many other recipes now feel almost like their my own. The recipes not only work, but they're just superb.

I just went Amazon to order a copy as a gift and was sad to see that it's a bargain book. This is book is a complete delight. Books like this feel like that favorite shirt that you pull out for just about everything.

One of the best! 19 Feb 2011
By Kara Roche - Published on Amazon.com

Snatch up your copies quick! This is one of the best cookbooks I own. I don't know why it doesn't have a larger audience. I can only assume that perhaps Zarubin was a little ahead of her time. It's similar in format to Goin's Sunday Suppers, but not all menus are for 6 people, nor are they all dinner menus. These recipes have been the source of some epic dinner parties at my house. Delicious! I think I am single handedly increasing the price in the used book market for this cookbook. I noticed that Amazon was no longer selling it directly, so I assumed that meant that the book was out of print. I started snatching up the used copies for friends, and when I started they were selling for around $6.00. Now, they are up to $15.
