She hopes to gain his affections

For Miss Elizabeth Smith, sharing her first kiss with the charming Lord Derek Creswell is nothing short of a dream come true...that is, until she is spotted by one of the most influential gossips of the ton. With scandal nipping at her heels, to avoid total social ruin, Elizabeth must present a fiancé by the end of the Season. But when the viscount proves reluctant, Elizabeth is forced to employ a seduction of a different sort...

He is determined to ruin her

Viscount Derek Creswell believes Elizabeth set out to trap him into marriage. After all, her sister attempted the very same thing with his brother six years before. Now the delectable Miss Smith expects a betrothal and a ring, while Derek finds her ruination infinitely more appealing...

But as Derek sets out to seduce only her body, Elizabeth is intent on claiming his jaded heart.

This is a short tale that's made me think about reading more in this series. For a novella, it managed to pack in a pretty whole tale, which was steamier than most.

Elizabeth has known of Derek Creswell since she was 15, when their families fell out after her sister accused his brother of seducing her, and the latter then refused to marry her. Derek believed his brother, and when Elizabeth started to show her interest in him during her first Season, he decided that she must be just like her sister, and thoughts of a petty vengeance came to mind...he would have her body..

...Until he and Elizabeth were caught in a (slightly) compromising situation, and to save face, she claimed that he had proposed to her, and to avoid scandal, he agreed that he would have to marry her. Unknown to him, she was already half in love with him, but he wanted nothing more than her body. So he seduced her, which wasn't hard, as she was more than willing and ready!

Of course, things don't go quite to plan, and truths are revealed as well as feelings...so this ends well enough. There's a preview of the next in the series, which is apparently not out for some time, but I'd prefer to read the back-tales before reading that, so I didn't bother with that.

The 4 star review is for the story alone. There is some excellent writing here - lighthearted, amusing, sexy. But, and this is a big BUT, the editing is way below par. If bad editing pulls you out of a story, beware of this one. Apart from typos,spelling and grammatical errors, there is a surfeit of pronouns like I have never seen. I would advise this author to find a new editor.

Lovely Story 21 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
My summary of the book - When Elizabeth is spotted kissing Derek she has to come up with plan to escape potential ruin and tries to make Derek realise he needs to marry her to save her. But Derek just thinks she has trapped him into marriage and a battle of wills emerge with Elizabeth determined to marry and Derek determined not to marry.

Thoughts on the characters - Elizabeth can't understand why she lets Derek kiss her but she does and then she has to quickly think on her feet when she finds out that they were caught. She can't stop herself thinking about Derek and feelings she starts to feel about him but knows he doesn't want her because of the past of her family and his.
Derek is angry when he finds out that he needs to marry Elizabeth as it is the very thing her sister tried with his brother years before and gets more angry when he starts to constantly think about her. She manages to get to him but he is determined not to marry her.

Overall thoughts - Lovely little story full of passion and would have loved it if the book was longer as I loved reading these characters and their battle of wills.

Derek Creswell may be a lord by birth and a gentleman in appearances and comportment but his kiss told her there was nothing remotely proper about him. He was carnality at its most sinful. "e;
