Allcam IT-CEO IT700 is a sleek & beautiful enclosure for converting an internal 2.5" SATA laptop hard drives into a portable external hard drive. It consists one plastic chasis sandwiched between two solid aluminium plates. The plastic chasis provide some degree of shock-protection for the hard drive (fitted inside the enclosure). The aluminium plates has oxidation treated surface which makes it smooth as well as hard.
This HDD enclosure is designed to make it easy and fast to install 2.5" SATA hard drive inside: push the button to open the top lid, slide the hard drive in, close the top lid, and your portable hard drive is ready to be used. This new design elimiated the difficulties in fixing the screws to the metal shell. However, it is recommened you do fix the hard drive to the plastic chasis via the included screws for better vibration protection.
Note: IDE hard drives are NOT supported. One of the easily-spot difference is the IDE drives with 44 sharp pins and SATA drives only 2 blocks of flat pins. Some large capacity 2.5" SATA hard drives (1TB or over) is 12.5mm thick and NOT compatible with this enclosure.
If your 2.5" laptop hard drive is the old IDE/ATA type, then please buy the Allcam 2.5" IDE laptop hard drive enclosure/caddy instead.
If you have a 3.5" desktop hard drive (a laptop hard drive weights around 150g/0.33lbs and a desktop hard drive weight around 1Kg/2.2lbs), then you need to buy either IT735 USB2.0 3.5" SATA hard drive enclosure
or IT735U3 USB3.0 3.5" SATA hard drive enclosure
or L803 3.5" IDE hard drive enclosure.
FAQ: Why my external hard drive is not showing in "My Computer" / "Computer"?
Most likely the hard drive is either not formatted (such as a new hard drive) or in a incompatible format (such as hard drives pulled from a Win 98 or Linux computer). Please follow the steps in "Quick Start Guide" to format the hard drive and it will be shown as a new driver under "My Computer".

I looked into buying a 2.5 inch HDD docking station (typically £25+) and then I found this. A great product, easy to use, looks good, easy to install the HDD into and worked straight out of the box (with Windows 7 - no need for any drivers etc).
The comments about the screws should not be a concern. I haven't bothered to install the screws and the drive sits quite securely in the enclosure (it clips shut). So, unless you're planning to transport the HDD around with you regularly and subject it to knocks / bumps etc, there's probably no need to screw it to the enclosure. This also gives the benefit of easily being able to remove the HDD and replace it with another - effectively using it as a docking station!.
The build quality is very high for the price and the only visible sign of cost-cutting is inside the unit. The metal tray is made of 'monkey metal'. But unless your planning on it surviving a heavy impact (which would certainly destroy your hard drive) then this is not a problem and does not effect the look of the unit when assembled.
The speed of the drive is as advertised. USB2 can run at a theoretical speed of 480mb/s but in the real world you will be lucky to get half of that.
Although another reviewer said that his drive worked fine with a single USB slot, do not expect the same. All but 1 of the drives I have ever used in external cases have needed both cables to work. If you plug in only 1 USB your drive will probably make a very quiet beeping noise as it tries to spin up, fails (because it doesn't have enough power) and then tries again. Do not think that because your drive is 'humming' that it is working and wonder why your PC/Mac won't recognise the drive. I would advise plugging in both USB connectors to the PC before connecting the caddy.
When my laptop drive started making a noise, I realised it was about to fail. I bought this, together with this hard drive "Acer Aspire 5742 Laptop Internal hard drive 1024GB/1TB, 7200 rpm...". My reivew of that drive explains why it is a good choice even if your laptop is not an Acer. I put the new disk in the case, plugged it into the USB and cloned the original hard drive using Easus Todo backup (there are other free options but this one worked well for me). It took a few minutes to set up and several hours to run.
I then checked the new disk by booting from USB. It did work so I took the new drive out of the Allcam and put it inside the laptop. This was the hardest step and if you really don't want to do it you could just use it as an external drive but that's not ideal.
There, my computer was saved and I also saved myself a day of fiddling about installing. I can now use the Allcam for an external backup drive.
My only criticism would be that the top cover sometimes pops off if you haven't secured the drive in the case with the four provided screws - but this is a really minor point and not really worth deducting any stars (especially given the price!)

Aluminium case that seems robust. The transfer speeds are indeed usb 3.0.
The "leather" case is of very low quality but still better than nothing.
Just got this and haven't used it yet. However, it seems to fit the replacement hard drive I have. I hope it fits the one I'm going to take out of my laptop. Read morePublished 26 days ago by Kay G

Love these enclosures. Smart looking, no tools access and work well. For the price they're hard to fault and there is nothing to complain about.Published 4 months ago by Gadget Master
