Product Description

Product Description

Allan Quatermain, Rider Haggard's famous protagonist, is an English-born professional big game hunter and occasional trader in southern Africa. Largely considered to be the character on which Indiana Jones was based, at the beginning of this adventure Quatermain has lost his only son and longs to get back to the wilderness. He persuades some old friends to embark on a gruelling expedition to find a lost East African kingdom involving sensational fights, terrible dangers and extraordinary escapes.

About the Author

Born in 1856, Sir Henry Rider Haggard KBE was a prolific writer of adventure novels set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa. He was also involved in agricultural reform around the British Empire. His stories, situated at the lighter end of Victorian literature, continue to be popular and influential to this day. He died in 1925.

Format:Paperback
Allan Quatermain and his friends Sir Henry Curtis and John Good find themselves thirsty for adventure after their return to England from the caves of King Solomon and therefore decide to go back to Africa, this time not in search of hidden treasure, but of a white race supposed to inhabit the interior of the continent. After quite an eventful journey, they reach Zu-Vendis, a fantastic country, where still more dangers are in store for them . . . The author succeeds in creating an adventure-packed atmosphere as well as in describing to the reader the beauties and marvels of the African landscapes and peoples. In comparison to "King Solomon's Mines", "Allan Quatermain" is a rather more personal work, in which the narrator criticises the civilized, modern world. I found it a great deal more moving and emotive, too. Altogether, a very nice book for the lovers of adventure who also have a tender heart.

If you've read King solomon's mines then this book is a necessary read. The return of Captain good, Henry Curtis and the hero, Allan Quatermain is one of the best in the series a true adventure from one of the greatest writers ever. The book tells of the adventure of the trio into the heart of the dark continent in search of a lost white race in the interior. It is definitely an eventfull journey. Joining the party is and old zulu war dog Umslopogaas an axe wielding warrior to journey with them on their adventures. A battle with the Maasai, an underground river and of course the nation of Zu-Vendis and all the dangers it holds, in the battle between the two sister queens....
