Product Description

Synopsis

They chased down Paul McCartney in a park and became the first band signed to Apple, the Beatle's new recording company. This is not just another story about the Beatles and the magical l960s, although they do feature heavily in it. It s also the tale of reaching for the stars and achieving every teenage boy s ambition. It s an adventure that took Paul on an exciting journey from the back streets of Liverpool in l959 to the heart of the Beatles empire in London in l967. Paul McCartney says that "Paul Tennant's story about Liverpool and his year with Apple is fascinating. I am pleased to have played a small part in it."

From the Publisher

This is a true Cinderella Story showing how the author wanted to do something with his life and get away from the back streets of Liverpool to follow his dream against all odds. A story of achievement with sadness, happiness and a "lucky break" that changed his life forever.

A fascinating account of the birth of the group Focal Point and the music scene in the sixties. A very talented group which deserving of much more recognition. The book begins with an insight into the early music scene around Liverpool by Paul Tennant of Focal Point, and provides glimpses into what it was like to be there at such an exciting time and pivotal time for music, with references to the Beatles playing small venues such as the Casbah Club. A vital and important book for anyone interested in the Beatles Apple Records label and Focal Point. The book includes a chapter on the superb single that was eventually released on Deram 'Sycamore Sid' and the background story behind it. Very well written and packed with an account of the hectic life around growing up in Liverpool the sometimes chaotic but creative eclectic Apple Records label. Highly recommended, with a complimentary comment from Paul McCartney on the reverse, whose role in the career direction of Focal Point is also well documented in the book.

What a wonderful book and story. Telling a true Cinderella tale of life at the centre of Merseybeat and the birth of the Beatles. Paul Tennants story about chasing Paul McCartney into the park and persuading him that you have "what it takes" to be a pop star is remarkable. A chance meeting that led to being at the very centre of Apple during the summer of love in 1967. There are some wonderful stories about his band Focal Point and how they had it all in the palm of their hands and then let it all slip away. A warning about how not to handle your one big chance at stardom. This book tells Paul's story about Liverpool and his stab at being a pop star. Not to be missed, and with a great endorsement from none other than Sir Paul McCartney himself. I am told that the movie rights for this story have been sold to a major Hollywood company and a feature film is in pre-production. Well recommended and you won't be able to put it down, I guarantee that.
