Product Description

From the label:
Formed by drummer Clive Deamer and bassist Jim Barr of '90s trip-hop superstars Portishead, The Blessing are storming onto the scene, taking riffs and rhythms from rock and dance music and artfully welding them onto fearsomely inventive improvisation. With trumpeter Pete Judge and saxophonist Jake McMurchie completing the line up, The Blessing's catchy, rocking tunes and snappy arrangements create a genre-bending blend of sounds that is all their own. They began to write tunes and a turning point came in 2006 when they finally got in the studio and a new sound emerged almost overnight - the sound you will hear on All is Yes. Their new approach has much in common with other current trailblazers - bands such as EST, Polar Bear and Acoustic Ladyland - and draws from influences as diverse as the Kings Of Leon, Morphine, Elvis Costello and Albert Ayler. "The idea was to get stuck into 'proper' improvisation rather than to rely upon a coasting rhythm section" explains bassist Jim Barr.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking grooves grommit!, 6 Feb 2008
High Octane bass-riffs, tight as a duck's proverbial drums and horns that go from snappy to spacey with much aplomb.

Should sell like hot cakes. Get one now while you're fingers can still be burned!

2.0 out of 5 stars Emporers clothing..., 23 Jul 2008
This album/group seeem to be in the midst of a frenzied PR campaign. Can't think why.The music is ok in a rather British "Jazz" sense but it's not particularly tight nor that original nor edgy as other gushing reviewers claim.Jaga Jazzist, now that is tight playing or Zappa's Mothers of Invention..that's tight.
Over hyped...and fails to really deliver.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only way is up!, 15 Feb 2008
This is the most exciting band and sound I have heard in ages. Bass, drums (ex-Portishead but this band is NOTHING like that), trumpet and sax, with a few helpers on occasion produce a driving but melodic rockhard jazz. The nearest I can think is a harder, edgier Bill Bruford or John McLaughlin, but The Blessing are truly original. I saw them live and was completely blown away. If you only buy one jazz record this year THIS IS IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the effort
I found this album a bit irritating after first buying it - in the same way as I did my first The Bad Plus tracks - and there is a comparison to be made here. Read more
