Although Dwyer appears to know exactly what she wants to talk about in this book the subject and style seem to clash on every page. Instead of being an insightful commentary on contemporary society in India the prose toils through numerous references to colonial times and never really gets to the point. The result is a text that is long drawn out but only really skims the surface of the many facets of social interaction and romance in India today.
This book is tough going and a very disappointing read.
