Travels On A Cloud,
By JIM DOYLE (PORTSMOUTH United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All of Us (Audio CD)
Back in 1968, something wonderful was happening in pop music. Bands were experimenting with new sounds, new instruments and marrying orchestrations to make strange psychedelic noises - some more successfully than others. Although never seen as major players in the flower power game, Nirvana were nevertheless a highly original and worthy band whose music evokes magical memories of what seemed like sweeter times. Although only one hit single to their credit - the magnificent Rainbow Chaser - included here, Nirvana were no one hit wonders and the quality of the material on offer is very good. The less successful singles "The Touchables" aka "All Of Us" is taken from a film of that name which no one has ever heard of, and the catchy "Girl In The Park" are inventive. The instrumental "The St John's Wood Affair" is simple and haunting. This will not appeal to everyone....

An unexpected change of direction,
This review is from: All of Us (Audio CD)
But welcome. I hadn't really expeted messers Novoselic and Grohl to continue with this band. They have made a good choice in keeping this continuation low key. With a substiantially increased band roster, this interesting and psychedlic music really sores, far beyond the band's previous output. Unashamedly retro, what really set this record apart from the new records of their contemparies is the embrace of genuine psychedelia and 60's melody (this even seems to extend to outfits), that they do all this while still retaining originality is all the more impressive. This music never comes off as pastiche.
Overall a massive change in direction, but a step in to far more complex and absorbing territory.

You do know it's not *that* Nirvana, right?,
By Esther Rabinowitz - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: All of Us (Audio CD)
The reviewer below might not have been aware that this album is by the UK psych-pop group from the late '60s, not Cobain's band. Fans of the freakbeat era rate Nirvana (UK) quite highly, and this album's opening track, Rainbow Chaser," is one of the psych-pop classics of its era. Highly recommended for all fans of British psychedelia, although you should be warned that this is extremely twee stuff.

nirvana's best album,
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: All of Us (Audio CD)
This is a really good album, and one of the best of the 1960s. It's a pity that Island let Nirvana go shortly after this and refused to release their third album "Black Flower". This has many inspirations from psychedelic to rock to classical, and also influenced many later bands. To that guy who whined about it not being Cobain's bunch of talentless posers, well...no kidding, hey, Einstein?
