The music of the British Nirvana appeared in the late 1960's. It was never widely popular even though their song "Pentecost Hotel" did receive considerable airplay.

They were popular with people who liked melodic acid influenced rock. The songs nearly all have orchestral backing and are far removed from Led Zep or Hendrix. There is however a delicacy of spirit and a sensitivity in this music that is very unusual.

The song writing had weaknesses but was "almost" very good. However, it has been 40 years since these songs were recorded and with all their faults I still love listening to them because they capture the essence of a very special and short lived time.

Back in 1968, something wonderful was happening in pop music. Bands were experimenting with new sounds, new instruments and marrying orchestrations to make strange psychedelic noises - some more successfully than others. Although never seen as major players in the flower power game, Nirvana were nevertheless a highly original and worthy band whose music evokes magical memories of what seemed like sweeter times. Although only one hit single to their credit - the magnificent Rainbow Chaser - included here, Nirvana were no one hit wonders and the quality of the material on offer is very good. The less successful singles "The Touchables" aka "All Of Us" is taken from a film of that name which no one has ever heard of, and the catchy "Girl In The Park" are inventive. The instrumental "The St John's Wood Affair" is simple and haunting. This will not appeal to everyone....

this album is great! love it! it was going to be a 4star album, but i just kept putting it right back in the cd player and listening again. a seminal album for any fans of british psychedelia and pop-psych,it includes extra tracks, mostly a & b sides taken from the album at the time, and is full of well crafted songs that hang around your brain.

A slice of time, a slip back to days when we bought records that had been created rather than "produced", you need your thinking caps on for this one! Memories of cold nights, friend's bed sits, red wine, fisn and chips, a toke or three shared, and then a dip into the psych waters! Brilliant! It all comes rushing back!

With its harsh sepia cover depicting a scene from a Nazi propaganda film - and with the band's name being the same as that of a Seattle grunge act - you can be forgiven for presuming that All of Us is a heavy album. It isn't. True, it can be counted amongst the plethora of psychedelic releases of the late sixties, some of which were very heavy indeed, but it's more Moody Blues than 13th Floor Elevators. That's not saying anything bad (I happen to love the Moodies) it's just unexpected. Also, there're a couple of tracks amongst the bonus material on which Art/Spooky Tooth do the backing. Those particular numbers (though faded out just as they start to really go for it) are much more pumped up. Nirvana is basically two guys, one from Ireland, the other from Greece. The influence of their nationalities does show through in the melodies and choice of instrumentation, but not overly so. The level of musicianship is very high, the tunes catchy and the production professional. All these factors combine to create a pleasant listen with a few choice moments of psych weirdness. I'd advise this album for lovers the lighter side of psych, e.g. The Zombies, Amen Corner, The Byrds, Manfred Mann, Love, The Hollies, Donovan etc.
