Haven fallen in love with Owl City a year ago after their success with `Fireflies' and their amazing album "Ocean Eyes", I was hugely looking forward to the release of this- his follow up album- "All Things Bright and Beautiful".

I wouldn't go as far as to say that this album matches the triumphant heights of "Ocean Eyes", but reading through reviews of this album, I certainly wouldn't be as critical as some of the reviewers have been- this album certainly doesn't far too far from the standards expected, and I think the previous albums have set an extremely high bar to reach again.

There are some amazing tracks on this album- `The Yacht Club' is a brilliant, pop anthem which literally sounds like it fell off of "Ocean Eyes" and is one of my favourites on the album, along with `Honey and the Bee' which strips back the sound which Owl City is known for; but builds on the lyrics and melodies which makes it a really simple and effect song- it's actually a lovely piece of work.

`Shy Violet' is hugely addictive as an ambient and electrified ballad-anthem; it's simple yet effective in its execution. Meanwhile `Deer in the Headlights' takes the title for the most ridiculously catchy and cheerful song- it's actually impossible not to dance a little bit to this track! Elsewhere, `Kamikaze' is an unusual track with some really great synth riffs in it- it takes on a more grown-up sound from his previous bodies of work, it's darker and more edgy and took a while to grow on me- but after a couple of listens I fully loved this track.

Lead singles `Alligator Skies' and `Galaxies' are both excellent indicators of where you can expect this album to head following "Ocean Eyes"- different, more grown up, but with the same innocent and catchy nu-wave styling's brought to us on previous albums- the latter of these two singles is actually of my favourite songs of the year- a true masterpiece!

As I said- if you're a fan of Owl City, don't worry too much about this album- it's a great piece of work filled with excellent tracks which you will fall in love with. For those ones which don't immediately catch you, give them a chance and few extra listens and you'll get there! This album is great and really enjoyable, Owl City once again hits the mark with an album filled with excellent and innocent lyrics, wonderful instrumentation and brilliant arrangements- it's addictive and makes for great listening!

Bright and Beautiful 18 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
Despite Owl City getting a lot of hate from some of the people I know I can't help but enjoy his music. The uplifting lyrics combined with the electronic sound create a wonderful set of songs to just chill out to. Now if you didn't like Owl City before, this album won't serve to change your mind. Some of the tracks bear striking resemblance to his previous songs. But if you already enjoyed their music like I did then this is defiantly worth a listen.

Out of all the tracks there's a few that stand out to me:

Deer In The Headlights - Probably my favourite song from the album, the melody is catchy and had me playing it over and over, the lyrics just had me smiling throughout.

Angels - Another great song with a good beat and very energetic and up-tempo.

Kamikaze - Catchy, different and a wonderful song to just chill out to, I rather enjoy the second voice playing over in the background adds an interesting appeal to the song especially with some good headphones on.

Shy Violet - Quite a soft song and I rather enjoy it, I loved the lyrics as per a lot of Owl Citys song make me feel happy when listening.

Of course these are just some of my favourites there all pretty good although a few tread familiar ground there still great for just chilling out, whether that be while out on a walk or just sitting in the back garden. I'm not the best at explaining why I enjoy music but this is the best I can do :) so if you enjoy songs that are uplifting with an electronic touch give it a try.

Gorgeous - not quite Ocean Eyes, but darn close
Somehow Adam Young's 'Owl City' has become my favourite 'band'. It started with the relentless charm-offensive of album 'Ocean Eyes', and has continued to a slightly lesser degree... Read more

Pleasant!
It's Adam Young. It's exactly like the first album. It's lovely. But he hasn't developed. I should hate it. But I don't. I just wish he'd not repeated himself. Read more
