Our book has not fallen apart, and we have used it in the Lakes a fair bit. C. Lambah's idea of carrying their child on their front may work in small families. We have five young children (all under 8), and I always take my Macpac child carrier in addition to our ATP, but obviously we could not manage solely with the child carrier. Hence the book is very useful. Finding circular walks is difficult when the paths need to be of a certain quality and a certain distance. If you have any, C. Lambah, I am sure the authors would be very grateful (although I am sure they have spent hours pouring over OS maps of the northern lakes). Walks in the Brecon Beacons are even more linear due to the lack of quality paths. That is the Beacons for you.
Admittedly I found a number of the walks on the OS map before consulting the book - but that will always happen with any of these books if you can read a map and spend some time studying them. I thought the routes were great, and we have tried many of them. Walking is excellent in itself, and is even better for families who want to be healthy, stick to a budget, enjoy the hills and improve their fitness. Our children love exploring!
Top marks to Richard and Ruth Irons, particularly as they started the series!
