Product Description

Product Description

The author, now 35, is one of cricket's greatest all-rounders and the retiring captain of Pakistan's team. He tells of his life and the game he loves: from his childhood in Lahore, to his student days at Oxford (where he led the University team), his time at Worcester and thence to Sussex, culminating in his captaincy of Pakistan. A self portrait emerges of a man who has spent fifteen years at the top: years which have wrought changes - political, commercial and tactical - in the way cricket is played and promoted; changes too, in the man himself, as he reconciled his Muslim upbringing with the professional and personal pressures of being an international sportsman.

The Lion of Pakistan 5 July 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
A candid, no holds barred view of cricket especially as it pertains to Pakistan. Describes the greatness and pettiness of this game and the politics that surround it. We probably won't see a leader like Imran on the cricket field for a long time to come, but maybe he can become Pakistan's PM one day.

One of the best ever. 12 Nov 2011

This book is one of the best books I have ever read. For anyone with an interest in cricket history circa 1975 - 1988, this book provides a fantastic perspective. Much of what I understand about tactics and strategy of Test cricket I learned from this book, and my enjoyment of watching Test cricket has been greatly enriched as a result. The way Imran writes is unique, I have never elsewhere experienced an author who can be so eloquent yet at the same time so simple and frank in his discussions. His logic and reason are very refreshing, as are his simple and direct approach to life, and his determination and courage. I have noticed other reviewers of this book have also given a rating of five stars - it appears there is consensus of opinion. Even amongst other wonderful books I have read, this book is unique in its style and content. It is completely unlike any other cricket 'autobiography' I have read, most of which have been written by 'ghost' writers; Imran wrote his book without a 'ghost'.
