Product Description

Product Description

It began with a break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington DC, on 17 June 1972. Bob Woodward, a journalist for the Washington Post, was called into the office on a Saturday morning to cover the story. Carl Bernstein, a political reporter on the Post, was also assigned. They soon learned this was no ordinary burglary. Following lead after lead, Woodward and Bernstein picked up a trail of money, conspiracy and high-level pressure that ultimately led to the doors of the Oval Office. Men very close to the President were implicated, and then Richard Nixon himself. Over a period of months, Woodward met secretly with Deep Throat, for decades the most famous anonymous source in the history of journalism. As he and Bernstein pieced the jigsaw together, they produced a series of explosive stories that would not only win the Post a Pulitzer Prize, they would bring about the President's scandalous downfall. ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN documents this amazing story. Taut, gripping and fascinating, it is a classic of its kind -- the true story of the events that changed the American presidency.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, fascinating, but a bit technical at times., 25 Jan 1998

This book by the reporters who were in the midst of the Watergate scandal for quite a while, takes the reporter from the initial, seemingly meanless break in at Watergate, to the resignation of a president. I would recommend this book to someone who wants to know the details of Watergate, but this book is not "easy reading." The myriad of names can sometimes be confusing, but the end product is a great non-fiction mystery story. Very well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and compelling., 14 Mar 2002

I could not put this book down - one of the best detective stories I have ever read, based on actual events - outstanding. As a british reader who wasn't even born when these events took place, I found this book absolutely riveting and incredibly informative, and very well written considering the volume of detail it contains. Sincere thanks to the two authors for all their hard work to bring out the facts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tle classic story of the power of tenacious journalism, 11 Sep 2001
By A Customer
I recommend this book to everyone.

You've probably seen the film but this book tells the full story of the 'buggers at the Watergate' including ex-CIA man E Howard Hunt and ex-FBI nutcase G Gordon Liddy. It would be funny if it wasn't so serious - it's probably the worst case of abuse of the democratic process ever recorded.

A paranoid Richard 'Tricky Dickie' Nixon sends 'The Plumbers' out to 'plug the leaks', only to be found out by two dedicated journalists at The Washington Post' who simply won't leave the story to die (aided by the still anonymous 'Deep Throat').

Unfortunately the tale ends with Nixon's resignation from office rather than his trip to St Quentin but this shouldn't spoil your enjoyment. READ IT.
