4.0 out of 5 stars Very reasonably priced! 20 Dec 2011
By adam
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
For just over 4 pounds this book was a bargain. A thick sized book with nearly everything in it to understand mainly how software on your pc works. Everything from creating and changing passwords, saving documents, partitioning and reformatting hard drives and installing new operating systems, working in dos, adding and removing programmes, little of adding new hardware and configuring and plenty more, plus loads of troubleshooting. Everything you'd want to know about running a computer. However as the name of the book implies, this is only the very basics of computer operating. For anything more complicated and in depth, you defenitely won't find it here, but that's true of all the DUMMIES series of computer books, i've looked through many of them. Only the bare basics. Good if you're just starting out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dummies from an inadequate user. 11 Mar 2011

I'm only part way through the book, but I'm enjoying it! It's not heavy going, as most computer books are. I feel I've learnt something already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really all-in-one, just as advertised 12 Sep 2003

Format:Paperback
This book covers a wide range of topics. Nothing is left out for the novice PC user. Step by Step instructions for networks - basic Office XP - hardware upgrades - troubleshooting - Windows XP - Microsoft Works - Internet security. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who has wanted more out of their computer, and needs the big picture!

PCs all in One Desk Reference for Dummies

I was stunned and enchanted when I finally saw all that this book contained - - things I had wondered about, but never quite got around to asking were suddenly right in front of me, and the possibilities are truly endless. I might actually LEARN something this time. I have been mystified by computers despite the ten or so books I have purchased in my pursuit of practical grasp, but this one seems like the one that will finally resonate with my confusion and give true catharsis to it all. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
