Product Description

Review

'This is an adorable book: neat, sweet, petite. Your loved one will love you even more for buying it for them. Toby Litt 'Somebody should write Mr Kaufman and thank him for his tender heart ... I expect this story will replace boxes of chocolates and flowers in courting rituals to come.' Sheila Heti 'An addictive, brisk, wonderfully inventive and funny piece of work.' Dogmatika '... may technically be called a love story, but if it is, it is one that is blissfully cliche free. More please.' Pulp.net 'Simply brilliant. A real gem of a book ... this ode to love was built to last.' Ham & High 'A deliciously barbed commentary on our ongoing epidemic of physical and emotional multi-tasking and all its neurotic spinoffs.' The Globe and Mail

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, 9 Feb 2006
I finished this book in one sitting in under an hour and plan to read it many more times.

The book is funny, clever, and even though it's quite surreal you can appreciate every character in it (and probably know someone not unlike them).

This is a heartwarming read without being too soft, probably the best book I've read in the last 6 months, and short enough to read from start to finish when you're just not feeling too great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweetest book I've ever read. Buy it now. Read it. Share it., 27 Aug 2009

This book is my favourite book.
It takes about an hour to read (I've read it about 12 times) and you will always want to come back to it.
It's very clever, very sweet and completely unpretentious.

If you have a loved one, either read it to them, or let them read it up until the last three chapters, then read the end to them. It's something that should be shared and treasured.

Enjoy, I have no doubt at all that you will.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but sweet, 6 Aug 2009
By Bantam Dave (Bradford, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
With nothing better to do in my lunch hour I picked this off the shelves of the big town centre bookshop. The photo on the front cover was quirky and the blurb on the back was intriguing so I read the first page. Then the second, closely followed by the third, fourth and fifth.

By the time I had to go back to work I had read well over half of the book.

Next day, another lunch hour, and I was back in the bookshop to finish it. Once finished I paused for a few minutes to reflect on what I had just read and then started to read it all over again.

I had to read it twice because it is the sort of book that demands being re-read; I was able to appreciate the story much more the second time because I knew then what it was all leading to.

The main reason I read it twice though was because it is an excellent book. Funny, touching and sweet natured, it may be a short read but it also has a very big heart.

A close up view of a love struggle, the principle plot over a short time span with plenty of flash backs - sounds a bit like Chesil Beach, doesn't it? Read more
