I bought this book after it was "book of week" on Radio 4. If you are in your 50's now (I'm 53) you'll appreciate Janice's memoirs. I could not help but compare her to myself.
She recalls many memories of her teenage years spent in Scotland living with her single mother and much older, deeply unpleasant sister. The reader is reminded of "The Slosh", spag bol cooked badly, school, early sexual encounters and later ones (!), fashions, emotions and so much more.
A very enjoyable book, sometimes happy, often sad and thought provoking. Certainly holds the reader's attention.
